Craft Teacher at Västerhejde School
In Region Gotland, you can develop and grow, both as an individual and together with others. When you work with us, you contribute to making Gotland an even better place for people in all walks of life. We make each other better.
Västerhejde School
Västerhejde School is a F–6 school with an after-school program, located about five kilometers south of Visby, close to both nature and the city.
Here you will find a school with a long tradition and strong belief in the future, where engagement, collaboration, and the holistic development of students are at the center.
Currently, over 270 students from preschool to grade 6 attend Västerhejde School, and around 40 employees in various professions work here. The school's size creates good conditions for secure relationships, short decision-making paths, and close collaboration between colleagues, students, and guardians. The school is part of Region Gotland, which provides stable organizational frameworks and access to a larger context with collegial learning, professional development, and joint development initiatives.
Your Responsibilities
As a craft teacher, you will be an important part of the school's practical-aesthetic activities, where theory and practice meet in creative processes. The craft subject is seen as a central part of students' learning – here, problem-solving skills, perseverance, creativity, and self-confidence are developed. You will work in well-organized facilities and collaborate closely with other educators throughout the students' school day. The position also includes being part of the school's special support at the middle school level.
Your task is to work practically with the school's curriculum and support the children in their learning, primarily in the craft subject. You will guide students' creative work - from idea to finished product. It is the craft teacher's responsibility to create conditions for students' learning and ensure they use tools and machines safely. In the craft subject, theory and practice are united in creative processes. Planning, testing, solving, and evaluating develop competencies in students that are useful even outside the craft room.
Who Are You?
We are looking for a craft teacher with expertise in wood and metal crafts, preferably with both education and experience. A teaching license is required for permanent employment. Experience from pedagogical work is an advantage.
As a person, you have the ability to see the needs of both individuals and the group, and you should be able to create a good collaborative climate. You should enjoy working flexibly and value student influence. You will be part of a team of engaged and competent colleagues who see collaboration around the students' entire day as a prerequisite for creating wholeness and security for both students and adults.
