Västerhejde School is looking for a Leisure Teacher

In Region Gotland, you can develop and grow, both as an individual and together with others. When you work with us, you contribute to making Gotland an even better place for people in all walks of life. We make each other better.

Västerhejde School

Welcome to Västerhejde School – a workplace where you can thrive and develop.

Västerhejde School is a municipal F–6 school with an after-school program, located about five kilometers south of Visby, close to both nature and the city. Here, you will find a school with a long tradition and a strong belief in the future, where engagement, collaboration, and the holistic development of students are at the center.

Currently, over 270 students from preschool class to grade 6 attend Västerhejde School, and around 40 staff members work in various professions. The size of the school creates good conditions for secure relationships, short decision-making paths, and close collaboration between colleagues, students, and guardians. We currently have three departments in our after-school program, which is integrated into the school's premises.

Your Responsibilities

As a leisure teacher at Västerhejde School, you have an important and meaningful role in the students' entire school day. You help create a safe, stimulating, and developing environment where teaching, care, and learning form a whole. The after-school program is a natural and integrated part of the school's activities and is characterized by collaboration, engagement, and a focus on students.

Your main tasks are to:

  • complement the school's teaching through meaningful and educational activities in the after-school program and during school hours.
  • contribute to students' social development, safety, and desire to learn
  • be an active part of the school's common values and development work

You will work based on the curriculum for the after-school program and help shape an activity where students' interests, needs, and participation are at the center. The position is broad and varied.

Examples of tasks include:

In the after-school program:

  • Plan, implement, and follow up on teaching and activities in the after-school program
  • Create a structured yet creative afternoon focused on play, creativity, movement, and collaboration.
  • Actively work with students' influence and participation, ensuring safe transitions between school and the after-school program.

During the school day:

  • Collaborate with class teachers during parts of the school day
  • Support students in class, in smaller groups, or individually.
  • Contribute to a holistic view of students' learning and development

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who is a qualified teacher in leisure or has equivalent qualifications.

You need to have a relational and low-affect approach where you are secure, responsible, and clear in your leadership. For you, collaboration should be a natural part of the profession. You are creative, solution-focused, and flexible. You want to actively contribute to school development and the quality of the activities. We want you to have experience being involved in the planning, follow-up, and development of the work team.

You should be able to collaborate with colleagues, student health, and school management. You should understand what it means to work preventively and health-promoting for a safe school environment. It is advantageous if you have participated in schools' value work, recess activities, and joint activities, as well as having experience in maintaining a good and professional dialogue with guardians.
