Case Officer at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has been assigned several roles to contribute to the efficient and sustainable expansion of new nuclear power. Therefore, we are now looking for 2–3 case officers who can work together to drive and develop the tasks.

The government's assignment to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency includes contributing in various ways to developing planning conditions and permitting processes for new nuclear energy facilities. One of the tasks involves financing and coordinating municipalities' pilot projects regarding the establishment of new nuclear power. Another involves developing new guidance on efficient permitting processes. Additional tasks include conducting environmental assessments and contributing to effective consultations for new nuclear power. In all assignments, the work is carried out in groups together with various competencies, including lawyers, and in collaboration with other authorities and stakeholders.

As a case officer, you will work in the department for planning, assessment, and supervision. The department works strategically with community planning and environmental legislation to achieve environmental goals and promote sustainable development. The department advocates for a green transition with limited impact on nature, the environment, and health, and to promote long-term good use of land and other resources, including water. The department's assignments include, among other things, a system responsibility for the Environmental Code, monitoring general environmental interests in cases and matters, being responsible for environmental assessment issues, participating in government assignments and EU work within our areas of expertise, and coordinating and developing supervisory guidance and other guidance.

A high degree of independence and self-drive is required, while the working method is based on humility, responsiveness, and the ability to collaborate. The tasks are varied, so it is important to be flexible and able to adapt to new situations to thrive in the role.

To achieve good results, a high degree of collaboration and dialogue is required both internally and externally with other authorities, the business community, and other stakeholders. You see the big picture in complex contexts and can assess which issues are important based on the agency's role and mission. You should also have a good ability to take responsibility and drive work forward, plan and prioritize tasks in a structured way even when the work pace is high.
