Press Officer at the Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society (MUCF)
The Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society (MUCF) is a government agency that develops knowledge about the living conditions of young people and the conditions of civil society. Our vision is an open and inclusive Sweden with good conditions for youth and civil society.
MUCF has been tasked by the government to ensure that the goals of youth policy and civil society policy are achieved. We do this by developing, gathering, and disseminating knowledge as well as contributing to the coordination of government initiatives. We collaborate with authorities, municipalities, regions, and civil society organizations and distribute state grants.
As of January 1, 2026, the agency's mission has expanded as we have taken over the responsibilities that were previously held by the Agency for Support to Faith Communities (SST) and the responsibility for state tasks within minority policy. This means that MUCF is an even more important actor in the work of strengthening democracy, promoting participation, and contributing to an inclusive society.
MUCF has offices in Växjö and, from February 2026, also in Stockholm.
Description
As a press officer, you play a central role in the agency's communication work with a focus on media relations.
The position is located in the Department of Communication and Learning and is part of the agency's common communication function.
The role is both strategic and operational, and involves contributing to ensuring that the agency's communication in the media is coordinated, relevant, and trust-building. You work closely with the Director General, Head of Communication, Communication Strategist, and subject experts to make the agency's knowledge and mission accessible in public debate.
The position is part of an ongoing development and change process, where the communication function is gradually being developed to better support the agency's long-term goals.
Responsibilities
As a press officer, you plan, coordinate, and implement the agency's press communication. You work proactively with press work and contribute to the development of a long-term and strategic media effort.
Your responsibilities include writing press releases, talking points, opinion articles, questions and answers (FAQ), and other press-related texts. You handle ongoing press contacts and media inquiries, provide media support and advice to managers and spokespersons, and monitor and analyze the media landscape. If necessary, you participate in the agency's crisis communication efforts.
The position may involve travel within Sweden.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree in communication, journalism, media and communication studies, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer with relevance to the tasks included in the position
- Several years of experience in press or media work, for example as a press secretary or journalist
- Excellent ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish
- Good understanding of media conditions, news logic, and journalistic processes
- Experience in writing press releases, talking points, opinion articles, and other press-related texts
- Experience working closely with management or in complex organizations
It is an advantage if you have:
- Experience working in a government agency or another politically governed organization
- Experience in crisis communication
- Experience in proactive press work and strategic media planning
- Knowledge of or experience with issues related to youth policy, civil society, minority policy, or faith communities
- Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in English
As a person, you are confident in the press role and can make professional assessments even in situations with high tempo and significant media pressure. You demonstrate this by being able to prioritize, provide advice, and act factually even when conditions change rapidly.
You have the ability to analyze complex issues and translate them into clear, accurate, and target group-adapted messages. In your work, you can explain contexts, make relevant delimitations, and adapt communication according to both media logic and the needs of the organization.
You work independently within your area of responsibility by taking initiative, planning your work, and driving tasks forward from start to finish. At the same time, you collaborate well with others by being receptive to different perspectives, contributing your expertise, and building trusting relationships both internally and externally.
