About the Job

SLU Aqua has approximately 90% external funding with many contracts and funders to manage according to the specific regulations that apply to the university as a government authority as well as for each respective funder. Your tasks will be varied, where collaboration with colleagues and overall responsibility, taking charge of a process from start to finish, are key concepts.

You will work practically with project accounting and project administration. This involves supporting project leaders in developing project budgets, registering and reviewing contracts from external grant and assignment providers, practically following up on project outcomes and making reallocations where necessary. You will also support project leaders with financial information in connection with final reports. This work is coordinated by our department economist, and you will work closely in a team. It may also be relevant to act as a sounding board in project leaders' work with procurement of goods or services. Other tasks within the financial area may also be included in the position.

As an economist with us, you will contribute alongside your colleagues to the development of economic and administrative processes. The administrative unit is led by the administrative manager, who is also your immediate supervisor.

Your Background

Qualifications Required:

Education:

Post-secondary education in economics. Alternatively, a high school education in economics with several years of work experience in a relevant field.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • At least two years of current experience working with accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Experience working closely with operations and accustomed to collaborating at different levels.
  • Very good written and spoken communication skills in Swedish and good knowledge of English are required.

System Skills:

You have a high general proficiency with systems and are accustomed to working with Excel as a working tool (SLU Aqua currently uses the ERP financial system).

Qualifications Desirable:

  • Experience working with project accounting
  • Experience with project follow-up with various funders, such as the EU.
  • Experience working with finance in the public sector, particularly in higher education.
  • Knowledge of procurement (LOU) and experience reading and interpreting contracts.
  • Very good Excel skills, preferably including pivot tables.

About Us

The Department of Aquatic Resources (SLU Aqua) monitors and evaluates the condition and development of aquatic ecosystems and how resource utilization affects these ecosystems. The research includes studies of the status of fish and shellfish stocks, ecosystem analysis and interactions, spatial analyses, effects of human impact on fish and ecosystems, fish conservation and fishing methods, aquaculture and its effects. Biological advice for management and sustainable use is one of the department's main tasks, as well as being responsible for Sweden's part of the EU's marine data collection program and conducting national environmental monitoring. The department has locations in 4 areas, with main locations in Uppsala (Ultuna), Öregrund, Lysekil, Stockholm (Drottningholm), and two field stations.
