We are now looking for an administrator for our section handling hazardous goods and flammable substances.

The section's mission is to work with regulations, permitting, supervision, market control, and support to other supervisory authorities, as well as to develop and strengthen society's ability to prevent incidents involving hazardous goods and flammable substances.

Your responsibilities and tasks

As an administrator in the transport of hazardous goods, you will participate in regulatory development work, conduct various types of information and training efforts towards businesses and other authorities, as well as work with accident reporting.

You will largely work with supervision of companies that transport or send hazardous goods. Your tasks will also include responding to regulatory questions from both businesses and authorities or the public.

Your knowledge and competencies

We are looking for someone who has:

• Relevant academic education, with a technical or scientific focus, or equivalent knowledge that the employer assesses as equivalent.
• Good ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English.

It is meritorious if you have:

• Practical experience from supervisory work within private or public operations.
• Experience in the area of transport of hazardous goods.
• Experience in legal work.

As of January 1, 2026, the current employee and leadership criteria will be replaced by the Authority for Civil Defense's approach for employees and leaders: The approaches apply in everyday life, crisis, and war. The three approaches should be seen as a whole and build on each other; collaborative – proactive - action-oriented.

To succeed in the role, we see that you are proactive, self-driven, and have linguistic analytical skills.

About the employment

We offer you a permanent full-time position that begins with a probationary period.

Your place of employment will be Karlstad, and travel may occur in the position.

The majority of our positions involve placement in a security class. Usually, Swedish citizenship is required. When placed in a security class, a security review with background check will be conducted before employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Most employees at MSB are designated for military service.

About us

The section for handling hazardous goods and flammable substances works for the safe handling of hazardous materials and to minimize the risks of accidents involving such materials. The section is responsible for the authority's regulations and general advice as well as support and development of society's preventive work within the areas of the law on the transport of hazardous goods and the law on flammable and explosive materials. The section is also responsible for tasks related to supervision and market control, as well as issues related to the unit's responsibilities regarding protection against crime and terrorism. Within the legislative area of transport of hazardous goods, we are a group of 11 people and primarily work with regulations, supervision, examination of safety advisors and vehicle drivers, as well as information and training in the area. The function also has responsibility for market control related to, among other things, transportable pressure-bearing devices (e.g., gas cylinders).
