Job Responsibilities

Do you want to work in a multicultural environment and act as a bridge between different cultures as a teacher? The Mother Tongue Unit is part of the School Administration in Malmö City, and we are now looking for a mother tongue teacher in French for 60%. As a mother tongue teacher, you will work with mother tongue instruction for grades 1 - 9 and in high school. You will provide study guidance in the student's mother tongue across various subjects in school. Teaching takes place in primary and secondary schools in Malmö City.

You motivate and inspire students and actively work for their development so that they achieve knowledge goals. You provide your students with context during the school day and contribute to their integration. You use digital tools and pedagogical resources in your teaching. Together with your colleagues, you work to develop the teaching. You may be part of various project groups aimed at enhancing the education for our students. As a mother tongue teacher, you have many different contacts, including students, guardians, and staff at the schools.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a Swedish or foreign teaching degree or an equivalent foreign academic degree. You have good knowledge of the Swedish language, at least equivalent to Swedish 2 at the high school level. To be considered for the position, you must have excellent oral and written skills in your mother tongue. You have contemporary language use and follow the linguistic development in your mother tongue. You also have previous experience in the teaching profession in Sweden or abroad. It is an advantage if you have previously worked as a mother tongue teacher. It is also advantageous if you have knowledge of Office programs, Google Apps, e.g., Drive and Google Classroom.

For permanent positions, a Swedish teaching degree or a foreign teaching degree assessed by the Swedish Council for Higher Education as equivalent to Swedish and supplemented with didactic-methodological studies at the university level in Sweden is required. You have good insight and knowledge of the Swedish school’s governing documents and can apply them in daily work. Good didactic and pedagogical skills are required for the job. You can lead and organize work to create a peaceful study environment and a good learning atmosphere throughout the day for the students. Furthermore, you have good collaboration skills and build good relationships with students, guardians, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

About the Workplace

The unit for mother tongue instruction and study guidance organizes and serves all primary and secondary schools in Malmö with mother tongue instruction and study guidance in the mother tongue. Approximately 15,000 students are offered mother tongue instruction and 3,000 students study guidance in their mother tongue.

Over 280 mother tongue teachers in around 50 languages are currently employed in the organization and have their daily workplace in schools throughout Malmö.
