Workplace Description
The Lung Biology research group at the Department of Experimental Medical Science is seeking to hire a laboratory assistant.
The aim of our research group is to contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms behind chronic inflammatory lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and interstitial lung diseases (ILD), which lead to structural changes in the tissue that affect disease progression. This knowledge is important from both a basic research perspective and a clinical perspective. The goal is also to develop new markers for early diagnosis and find new treatment strategies for chronic lung diseases. The research group values a good working environment.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
The purpose of the employment is to strengthen the Lung Biology group with a person who has a strong background in molecular biology and histology related to COPD research.
As a laboratory assistant within the research group, you will be responsible for project planning and independently performing various research tasks. Your duties mainly include in vitro work with primary cells, ex vivo work with precision cut lung slices (PCLS), RT-qPCR, western blot, Luminex/ELISA, as well as immunohistochemical and histological analyses. Data analysis and compilation, as well as writing scientific papers, are also part of your responsibilities. You should be independent, ambitious, and meticulous, with good communication skills.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:
- Master's studies in Molecular Biology and Cellular Differentiation with a focus on cellular and applied biology.
- Good knowledge of the lung and lung diseases, including lung cancer.
- Documented experimental experience working with patient material, cell culture of lung fibroblasts and epithelial cells, as well as experience with PCLS methodology.
- Documented experience of RT-qPCR, Western Blot, ELISA, and immunofluorescence and histological analyses.
- Ability to independently compile data, manage image analysis, and write scientific papers.
- Independent and proactive with a desire to develop projects.
- Good knowledge of statistics for data analysis.
Desirable qualifications for the position are:
- Experience with in vitro studies involving epithelial cells and lung fibroblasts in pharmacological studies and work with PCLS.
- Previous experience with GraphPad, ImageJ, and ImageLab.
- Previous experience researching similar projects.
- Collaboration with the University of Napoli Federico II in Italy.
Scientific competence in the relevant subject area is the primary hiring criterion. Research profile, experience, and knowledge will be considered in the evaluation.
