Job Responsibilities
The doctoral education comprises 240 higher education credits (equivalent to four years of full-time study) and concludes with a public defense.
You will primarily focus on doctoral education and work on your dissertation in sociology of law. You will also actively participate in the department's research environment. In addition to research, the duties may also include teaching and administrative work, but no more than 20% of the working time.
The working language is primarily English, but you are expected to acquire basic knowledge of Swedish during the employment period.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Completed master's degree in Sociology of Law or another subject deemed relevant by the employer.
- At least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 at the advanced level.
- At least 30 higher education credits in sociology of law at the advanced level, or a subject assessed as equivalent, of which at least 15 credits consist of a thesis.
- Very good ability to express yourself in spoken and written English.
- Strong motivation and ability to work independently under time pressure.
- Good collaboration and communication skills.
Meritorious:
- Previous theses and publications in sociology of law or related subjects.
- Experience in teaching, research, or administrative work.
- Self-driven, persistent, and good writing skills.
- Collaborative ability, initiative, structured, and analytical skills.
Assessment Criteria
Regulations for employment as a doctoral student can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance. Only those who are admitted to doctoral education may be appointed.
In the appointment process, emphasis will primarily be placed on the ability to benefit from doctoral education.
In addition to the obligation to engage in their own doctoral education, the holder may be required to perform duties related to education, research, and administrative work according to specific provisions in the ordinance.
Research plans and previous theses and published material in sociology of law or related subjects within the social sciences or law are important documents for assessing this ability.
Very good ability to express oneself in spoken and written form is of great importance.
As doctoral studies in sociology of law are very demanding, the applicant must be strongly motivated and able to work independently under time pressure.
Good collaboration and communication skills are also a requirement, as well as good knowledge of English in both spoken and written form.

- a cover letter in Swedish or English, comprising a maximum of 1,000 words, which includes a brief presentation of yourself as an applicant and your qualifications as well as a brief description of why you are interested in the doctoral education in sociology of law at the Department of Sociology of Law, Lund University;
- a thesis corresponding to at least 15 higher education credits at the advanced level in sociology of law or a subject assessed as equivalent and other relevant publications. If the thesis is written in a language other than Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, or English, a summary of a maximum of 1,000 words must be attached, outlining the method, theory, results/analysis;
- a CV in Swedish or English showing eligibility for doctoral education in sociology of law;
- degree certificate and transcripts in Swedish or English;

- names and contact details of two referees;
- any other documents that you as an applicant wish to invoke for the current position.
Assessment of applicants will be based on the above points, and top-ranked candidates will be invited for an interview.
Start date is 2026-09-01. You are expected to be able to perform your work on-site in Lund.
