Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a music teacher specializing in singing/choir for teaching within El Sistema and/or the Cultural School's choir activities. You can apply for either El Sistema, the choir part, or a combination of both.

The role includes:

• planning and conducting group lessons (all teaching is done in groups)
• collaborating with other teachers in a team to implement the activities
• contributing to a safe, inspiring, and inclusive environment where children can develop musically and socially
• cooperating in work teams; a large part of the regulated working hours is workplace-based

The work is scheduled during daytime, evening, and some weekend duties may occur.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

• a music/teaching degree from a music academy (preferably with singing as the main subject) or other education deemed equivalent by the employer
• very good Swedish in spoken and written form
• good pedagogical skills and experience working with children in groups of various sizes
• a professional approach and the ability to create safety, structure, and engagement in groups

For the El Sistema part, the following is also required:

• secondary instrument piano or guitar

For the choir part, the following is also required:

• piano
• choir conducting

Meritorious

• competence in additional forms of expression/secondary instruments, such as rhythmics, dance, visual arts, film, music production, etc.
• experience from cultural schools and/or El Sistema
• experience working in primary schools
• knowledge of and experience working with children's influence and rights
• experience from working in socio-economically disadvantaged areas
• knowledge of one of Malmö's major languages besides Swedish

About the Workplace

Malmö Cultural School is part of the cultural administration in Malmö City and one of the largest cultural schools in the country, reaching over 5,000 children and young people. The Cultural School offers courses in animation, visual arts, dance, music, comic drawing, and theater, and is centered in the Mazetti Cultural Center, right in Malmö. Our goal at Malmö Cultural School is to provide quality education to Malmö's children and youth, accessible regardless of where in Malmö they live and their background. We work purposefully to establish our activities in all neighborhoods.
