About Fontana

Fontana is a family-owned food company focused on quality, sustainability, and good food. We are growing in plant-based products and are now looking for a Food Scientist who wants to work with both product development and quality assurance.

About the role

In this role, you will drive the development of new plant-based products – from idea and test kitchen to factory tests and launch. You will work closely with our production teams and collaborate with external manufacturing partners, both in Sweden and internationally. The role also has a clear quality responsibility, ensuring that products, processes, and documentation meet all applicable regulations.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that all packaging and labeling information is correct, including ingredient lists, allergen labeling, nutritional values, and other EU requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize plant-based products from concept to production.
  • Conduct sensory, sustainability studies, and microbiological analyses.
  • Plan and execute factory trials and scaling up with external partners.
  • Ensure quality through batch release, documentation checks, and HACCP work.
  • Be responsible for accurate packaging and labeling information according to EU regulations.
  • Work on process and cost optimization as well as improved product consistency and texture.

Qualifications

  • Relevant education in food technology, biotechnology, or similar.
  • At least 5 years of experience in product development, preferably in plant-based dairy/protein.
  • Experience in quality assurance, HACCP, and EU labeling.
  • Familiarity with scaling up products from lab to pilot and full-scale production.
  • Experience in sensory, shelf-life, and analytical methods for texture/quality.

Preferred

  • Experience with international factories and co-manufacturers.
  • Knowledge in DoE/statistics (e.g., JMP).
  • Experience in fermentation, mycoprotein, or similar techniques.
