Do you want to contribute to high-quality medical research?
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for the unit of integrative epidemiology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM), Karolinska Institute (KI).
The main goal of the research within the unit is to improve the understanding of the causes and consequences of ill health and diseases. The research focus within the unit is on psychiatric disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer.
We hereby welcome applications for a postdoctoral position in the research group epidemiology of women's mental health at IMM, KI, Campus Solna. The research group is led by Assistant Professor Lu. Dr. Lu leads a comprehensive research program aimed at understanding the underlying biological mechanisms affecting affective disorders related to female reproduction (such as perinatal depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and perimenopausal depression) as well as potential health consequences. This is done through significant population-based cohorts with large amounts of clinical and molecular data.
The main purpose of the proposed projects is to discover risk factors for and health consequences of reproductive mood disorders using registry data and large population-based prospective cohorts. We will use our registry data and genotyped data for conducting genetic studies (for example, sibling comparison and Mendelian randomization analysis). The recruited candidate will play a key role in the new projects and will have close collaborations with senior partners in Nordic countries/institutions.
Your Role
We are looking for an outstanding and innovative postdoctoral researcher to join our team. We have large amounts of data and are seeking a skilled data scientist to expand and enhance our understanding of the data. The candidate should be passionately engaged in promoting knowledge of psychiatric epidemiology and improving women's mental health. The recruited candidate will join our team and conduct registry research as well as research on genetic and other omics data. Our research group has extensive experience in promoting early-career researchers. The position is for two years with the possibility of extension.
Who are you?
To be employed as a postdoctoral researcher, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. It is meritorious if you have obtained your doctoral degree within the last three years; if there are special reasons, your degree may have been obtained earlier.
To qualify for the position, you also need to have:
- a doctoral degree in medical science such as epidemiology, biostatistics, computer science, statistics, or related fields. We will also consider those with a doctoral degree in other research areas who have advanced/relevant data science skills (e.g., machine learning).
- organizational skills and the ability to work concurrently on various tasks.
- experience in developing structured methods to solve unforeseen and complex problems as well as previous experience working effectively in “team science” contexts.
- excellent oral and written communication skills in English, along with experience in scientific writing.
- previous experience in advanced analyses with registry data is meritorious.
