Subject Description
Technical communication encompasses the skills in written, spoken, and visual communication required for effective communication in the engineering profession.
Job Responsibilities
The lecturer is expected to teach primarily academic and engineering writing in Swedish within the framework of the subject's own courses and the integrated components for which the subject is responsible on a commissioned basis at KTH's various programs. Part of the position includes writing guidance for students in KTH's Center for Academic Writing and Rhetoric.
The job responsibilities are highly varied, as much of the teaching is adapted to several different student groups, primarily at the undergraduate level, who have different backgrounds and come from various fields of science. The lecturer should independently plan and conduct writing instruction based on the various conditions and requirements presented. Therefore, the position also includes mapping the need for writing support in different programs and courses, developing pedagogical methods and teaching materials tailored to the many different subject orientations and text types at the institution. This also includes written feedback, assessment and grading, some administration, as well as course and examiner responsibilities, and taking an active role in the long-term development and expansion of the subject. The position also provides opportunities to participate in various development projects within technical writing and writing pedagogy.
The lecturer is also expected to actively participate in the pedagogical and organizational development of the subject and unit. Additionally, standard job responsibilities associated with a public employment at an institution of higher education apply.
Eligibility
Eligible for appointment as a lecturer is one who has:
- completed a degree at the undergraduate or advanced level within the subject of the appointment or has equivalent competence.
- professional skills that are significant in relation to the subject matter of the appointment and the job responsibilities included in the appointment.
- demonstrated pedagogical skills.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment criteria for appointment as a lecturer at KTH are those specified in section 1.5 of KTH's employment regulations in relation to the established employment profile.
It is of utmost importance that the applicant has:
- subject-specific competence relevant to the content of the appointment, particularly engineering writing in Swedish.
- pedagogical competence. The assessment of pedagogical competence should also consider the person's ability for long-term development as a teacher.
- professional competence relevant to the content of the appointment.
It is of secondary importance that the applicant has:
- experience teaching university students from technical, natural, or medical fields in subject-specific writing.
- skills regarding development work in the field.
- administrative skills.
It is also of significance that the applicant has:
- higher education pedagogical training.
- the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community.
- the ability to develop and lead activities and personnel, as well as collaborative skills. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
- work experience outside of higher education.
