Unit for Criminal Cases and International Legal Cooperation (BIRS)

Are you a court-qualified lawyer interested in handling criminal and procedural law matters with an international dimension? If you thrive with significant personal responsibility, you can face challenges in a fast-paced environment that will help you grow with us!

Your Workday. Sweden's Tomorrow.

The unit handles cases related to Sweden's international criminal law cooperation. The unit also manages negotiations and legislation related to its area of responsibility. We are now seeking reinforcement in the form of a case handler whose task will be to monitor, prepare, and handle cases concerning international criminal law cooperation. The central authority for international legal cooperation is located within the unit, and you will assist, together with your colleagues in the case group, Swedish and foreign authorities in criminal and civil law matters.

In your daily work, you will primarily work independently and continuously on the processing and preparation of government matters, e.g., cases concerning extradition, transfer of sentence enforcement, and legal assistance in criminal cases, as well as cases concerning clemency in criminal matters. Other tasks within the unit may also arise, so you should be open to taking on smaller legal investigations and, to some extent, negotiation work as needed.

The tasks involve extensive contacts with other units within the Ministry of Justice, with other departments within the Government Offices (RK), as well as with Swedish and foreign legal authorities.

Your Background

We are looking for someone with a law degree and court qualifications. You also have very good knowledge of criminal and procedural law. Due to the international nature of the job, it is also required that you are equally comfortable working in both English and Swedish. Furthermore, you are expected to be a skilled writer and that your presentations maintain a high standard.

Experience as a prosecutor or experience from other authorities in the legal chain and/or work within RK is meritorious, as it provides you with even better prerequisites to quickly get into the work with us. Additionally, experience from international work with legal issues and additional language skills that may be useful in the work are also meritorious.

Your Qualities

You need to be able to work independently and drive your cases forward to decision while continuously gathering information, collaborating, and anchoring your work with other stakeholders. We support each other between units, and you must therefore be prepared to step in where you are most needed. You are service-oriented, quality-conscious, and able to deliver with high accuracy even under time pressure.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Other

The advertisement concerns a permanent and a fixed-term position, both with the same requirement profile. The permanent position always begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date by agreement. You indicate in your application which position(s) you are interested in.

The positions are classified in security class, and a security clearance with background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen but may have a foreign background.

Are You Interested?

If you would like to know more about the work or the recruitment process, you are welcome to contact group manager Ashraf Ahmed or recruitment specialist Marjut Thelin. Union contacts are Peter Munck for Saco and Catarina de Grad for ST. All can be reached via the switchboard at 08-405 10 00.

Welcome to register your application in our recruitment tool by January 27, 2025.
