Intern Wanted at the Institute for Human Rights
We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to an organization that monitors and ensures that human rights are respected and realized in Sweden. At the Institute for Human Rights, you will participate in the work of establishing a new and independent authority tasked with strengthening the enforcement of human rights. The Institute will also fulfill tasks as an independent national mechanism under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We were established on January 1, 2022, and operate in accordance with the Paris Principles, which is an international standard for national human rights institutions. Since the autumn of 2023, the organization has been structured into three units: the Investigation and Analysis Unit, the External Relations and Cooperation Unit, and the Management and Operational Support Unit.
About Interning with Us
Are you interested in human rights in Sweden? Do you want to be in a workplace where human rights experts from various fields collaborate with authorities, non-profit organizations, and international UN bodies? Then take the opportunity to intern with us and become part of our important work!
During the autumn semester of 2025, we offer the opportunity for three undergraduate or master's students to intern with us. As an intern at the Institute for Human Rights, you will work to promote, support, and document the work on human rights in Sweden. You will gain a broad understanding of the human rights situation in the country and experience working based on rights.
The internship will be based in our office in Lund and may involve a combination of larger independent projects as well as smaller tasks that arise based on needs. You may, for example, prepare consultation responses, contribute to investigations and analytical work, transcribe interviews, and collect data. Furthermore, you may also assist with communication efforts, such as filming lectures or preparing posts for social media. As an intern with us, you will be assigned a supervisor and connected to a unit.
No financial compensation is offered.
Requirements
To be considered for an internship with us, the internship must be part of a study grant-eligible internship course at the undergraduate or master's level. The internship must take place at a Swedish higher education institution and have a relevant focus for the Institute. You may study gender studies, sociology, law, political science, international relations, criminology, etc. The important thing is that you demonstrate a clear interest in human rights through your studies, work, or private engagement. You must also have a supervisor appointed from your institution.
During the autumn of 2025, we will be working on projects particularly suited for those with a background in criminology or law. However, we encourage all interested applicants to apply!
Application
Your application should include the following documents:
- CV
- Cover letter
- Certificate from study or internship advisor
- Transcript from Ladok showing completed courses.
