The Community Building Administration is responsible for exploitation, urban planning and building permits, parks and green spaces, streets, water and waste, as well as food and local care. Here, over 300 employees work together to make Ystad a good municipality to live, work, and thrive in.

Within the Community Building Administration, we work across three departments, and as an Environmental Strategist, you will be part of the Strategic Group unit in the Urban Planning Department. The group consists of an urban architect, a city antiquarian, a municipal ecologist, and a climate adaptation strategist. In addition to the Strategic Group, there are the Building Permit Unit, Planning and GIS Unit, and the Mapping and Measurement Unit. Within the administration, you will work alongside colleagues who are experts in the areas of land, water, and environment. Depending on the assignment, you will primarily report to the Community Building Committee, but also to the Municipal Executive Board regarding the municipality-wide strategic sustainability work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for someone who wants to work strategically with sustainable development, with a particular focus on environmental and climate issues. For us, sustainability encompasses social, economic, and environmental dimensions, and in this role, you will work with overarching sustainability issues, primarily within the administration but also to some extent across the entire municipality's operations. You will be a driving force in the strategic environmental work to achieve the municipality's set environmental and sustainability goals.

In your role, you will provide specialist support in environmental strategic issues, for example within urban development projects, planning processes, or during procurement and review of consulting assignments. You will also contribute to various projects and development work within the city, focusing on environment and climate. The position does not involve supervision according to the Environmental Code, which is handled by the Ystad-Österlen region's environmental association.

To thrive in the role and succeed with the assignment, it is important that you stay updated on research, legislation, and developments in the field. You have the ability to take initiative, see opportunities, and transform strategies and analyses into relevant, concrete, and feasible actions. In this role, you will have many external and internal contacts, which requires you to be skilled at collaborating and communicating with different stakeholders.

As an Environmental Strategist, the following tasks may also occur:

  • Work strategically with your tasks, focusing on high service and quality
  • Coordinate the municipality's sustainability work, with a particular focus on environment and climate, together with sustainability representatives within the administrations, companies, and the environmental association
  • Update the municipality's sustainability program
  • Participate and support in environmental impact assessments in community building processes
  • Manage referrals and coordinate the municipality's responses to surveys within the environmental and sustainability area
  • Prepare and present cases in the Community Building Committee and/or the Municipal Executive Board
  • Follow up on local, regional, and national action programs for environmental goals
  • Participate in various forums and projects to varying extents
  • Drive Ystad Municipality's participation in OPCC (One Planet City Challenge)
  • Represent the municipality and work with external actors to promote sustainability and climate actions
  • Work to reduce the municipality's carbon footprint
  • May lead and drive the municipality's change work in sustainability and climate

QUALIFICATIONS

To be qualified for this position, the following is required:

  • Relevant university education in sustainable development with a focus on environment, climate, or equivalent as assessed by the employer.
  • Very good communication skills in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
  • B driver's license

Desirable experiences include:

  • Previous experience of strategic work with environmental and climate issues
  • Knowledge of sustainability reporting, climate calculations, and/or life cycle analyses.
  • Experience in municipal, regional, and/or state community planning.
  • Familiarity with politically governed organizations.
  • Good communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.
