Special Helicopter Group (SHG)

is a special operations unit within the Swedish Armed Forces' special operations system (FMSF) located at the Helicopter Wing in Linköping. SHG's primary tasks are tactical transport, intelligence gathering, and air support. Like other units within FMSF, SHG has high demands for availability from specially selected personnel, with extensive operational experience as well as a high level of education and competence.

About the position

As platoon leader for the close protection platoon at SHG, you will be an important part of enabling SHG's operational activities. The close protection platoon is organized within the unit's newly established base company, which supports the unit's flying resources with capabilities that enable basing. The platoon organizes the personnel and capabilities required to ensure the protection of the unit's grouping. As platoon leader, you are the first-line leader and a role model in your field. You lead your personnel in both operational and training conditions, and you are ultimately responsible for solving the tasks assigned to the platoon.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the platoon's activities and personnel.
  • Act as a commander with personnel responsibility (CPA) for your soldiers and officers.
  • Lead and coordinate activities within the framework of assigned or adjacent tasks.
  • Participate in planning and development work at the unit level.

Your everyday life will be dynamic and at times challenging, but with the establishment of the platoon, you will have great opportunities to influence and develop a resource that is in demand by the unit. The position involves maintaining readiness for national and international operations, in some cases with short notice.

Qualifications

  • Officer, OF 1-2 or specialist officer SO 6-7.
  • Approved according to FM FysS.
  • Experience as a platoon leader in a ground combat platoon (regardless of weapon type).
  • Established experience as an instructor.
  • Range safety officer.
  • Good ability to express oneself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
  • Driver's license class B.
  • Swedish citizenship.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience from another position within FMSF.
  • International service.
  • Instructor for soldier-carried weapons (assault rifle, pistol, machine gun, anti-aircraft weapon).
  • Additional instructor competencies within the ground combat arena (e.g., medical care, vehicles, winter, sensors).

Personal qualities we value:

We believe you have the ability to make decisions and lead your platoon under extreme, combat-like conditions with unknown variables - as well as in a training context with good conditions. You also have good stress resilience and pronounced teamwork skills. You show openness to coming up with unconventional methods and solutions.
