Special Helicopter Group (SHG)
The Special Helicopter Group (SHG) is a special operations unit within the Swedish Armed Forces' special operations system (FMSF) located at the Helicopter Wing in Linköping. SHG's primary tasks are tactical transport, intelligence gathering, and air support. Like other units within FMSF, SHG has high demands for availability from specially selected personnel, with extensive operational experience and a high level of training and competence.
About the Position
As a MATERIAL MECHANIC at SHG, you will hold the role of a material mechanic within the unit's aircraft maintenance function, which is part of the unit's Combat Service and Support (CSS) company. CSS includes several supporting functions, including aircraft maintenance, communication/IT, logistics, and fuel. The work is varied and takes place at different tempos, situations, and environments. Your main tasks will involve maintenance and follow-up of the unit's flight safety-impacting ground equipment, i.e., equipment related to aircraft maintenance services both nationally and internationally during exercises and missions. As a material mechanic, you are an important part of the whole in the aircraft maintenance platoon. Over time, you will have the opportunity to help drive and develop the combat unit within your own function as well as in other areas.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct maintenance and follow-up of the unit's aircraft maintenance equipment, flight safety-impacting ground equipment, and mission equipment, both nationally and internationally during exercises and missions.
- Contribute to maintaining a high availability of the unit's assigned helicopters.
- Contribute to the development of the combat unit and your own function.
Several other tasks will be added, and the work places very high demands on initiative, problem-solving ability, and the willingness to see and understand what needs to be done to develop the function's working methodology. The position involves maintaining readiness for national and international operations, in some cases with short notice.
Qualifications
- Completed GMU/military service with passing grades.
- Approved according to FM FysS.
- Good ability to express oneself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
- Driver's license class B.
- Swedish citizenship.
Meritorious
- Group leadership training.
- Previous experience in aircraft maintenance or mechanic work.
- Military driver's license.
- Driver's license class BE, C, CE.
- Forklift license.
- Previous international service.

Employment rate: Full-time, scheduled working hours
Work location: Linköping
Start date: By agreement
Employment form: The employment is based on the Swedish Armed Forces' collective agreement for the employment of group leaders, soldiers, and sailors (GSS/K). This may involve a 6-month probationary period and thereafter employment for up to 8 years with the possibility of extension for 4 years.
Information about the Recruitment Process
Applicants for the position at SHG, who after selection are deemed suitable, will undergo a selection process including additional tests, interviews, and medical examinations. In connection with a possible invitation to selection, details regarding working hours, travel, equipment, and preparations will be provided. Invitations to selection will be sent out tentatively during week 525 for the selection process in the autumn of 2025.
