Department Head at Svenska kraftnät

Do you want to work as a department head in a socially important organization in an exciting and dynamic environment with international connections?

The Swedish National Grid (Svenska kraftnät) is the system responsible authority for the power system in Sweden. We exercise system responsibility both through our own efforts and by coordinating the efforts of other actors in the power system. This includes maintaining and developing a reliable transmission network for electricity and ensuring that a balance between electricity production and consumption is maintained in the short term. Research and development are also conducted within Svenska kraftnät.

About the position

Svenska kraftnät is now seeking a driven and strategic leader for one of Sweden's most significant legal departments. In this role, you will:

  • lead and inspire a qualified specialist organization with significant societal responsibility.
  • drive change and development in line with Svenska kraftnät's growing mission.
  • collaborate closely with the business to ensure that legal issues and information management are handled proactively, with high expertise and solution focus.
  • be a key player in the management team of the Common Functions division and work closely with other department heads and the chief legal officer.

We are looking for a strategic and forward-thinking leader with the ability to lead qualified work in a complex environment.

Your responsibilities

As department head, you will have overall responsibility for the operations and lead a specialist organization with both strategic direction and operational execution. In your role, you will ensure:

  • Clear governance and leadership – you create structures that promote cross-functional collaboration, efficiency, and business acumen.
  • Strategic development – you drive improvements with a holistic perspective and ensure that work methods are continuously developed.
  • Goal management and results – you set clear goals, follow up, and ensure that the organization delivers at a high level and with quality.
  • Responsibility for personnel and budget – you build a strong and engaged organization where employees thrive and perform.

This is a role for you who want to lead, influence, and develop – while contributing to ensuring that Sweden's electricity supply is secure, efficient, and legally sound.

About the legal department

The legal department is responsible for coordinating, supporting, and governing operations within law and information management. As department head, you will lead an organization of approximately 50 specialists distributed across four units: System Law, Agency Law, Investment Law, and Registry and Archives. Together with your unit heads and employees, you will ensure that Svenska kraftnät complies with national and European legislation, guides the organization in legal matters, and manages information in a legally sound and efficient manner. The department also serves as a contact point with the Government Offices and provides legal support to the Director General.

The legal department has a close collaboration with the Chief Legal Officer function, a strategic change that since last year means that the roles of department head and chief legal officer are separated. The legal department ensures that legal advice is proactive, efficient, and creates significant value for the organization – always focusing on Svenska kraftnät's mission.
