Unit Manager for the Preparedness and Crisis Management Unit

What will you work with?

You will be the unit manager for the Preparedness and Crisis Management Unit within the Department of Infectious Disease Control and Health Protection. As a unit manager, you have overall responsibility for ensuring that the unit operates in accordance with the agency's overarching goals and assignments. You have personnel responsibility as well as budget and operational responsibility for the unit's overall activities and are part of the department's management team.

As a unit manager at the Public Health Agency of Sweden, you are an employer, operational representative, and leader. Your role as a unit manager includes:

  • Being clear in leadership, governance, and communication.
  • Setting, clarifying, and following up on activities that lead to the achievement of the unit's goals and desired effects.
  • Ensuring the unit's competence in the short and long term.
  • Creating conditions for collaboration and dialogue both within and outside the organization, as well as representing the agency externally.
  • Together with other managers, being responsible for and promoting the development of the entire organization to meet the needs of the environment and the agency's assignments.

You are a confident and communicative leader who enjoys collaborating and creating networks. Your role in the department's management team, which collectively is responsible for promoting development to meet the needs of the environment and the agency's overall assignments, will also be an important part of the work. You lead from a trust-based approach, see diversity as an asset, and create conditions for employees in the unit to do good work by promoting good employee engagement and inspiring and motivating development.

Who are we looking for?

Requirements for the position:

  • Relevant university degree in medicine, natural sciences, political science, or another degree that the employer deems equivalent for the assignment.
  • Several years of current experience as a manager with personnel responsibility or other leadership experience within public operations that the employer deems equivalent for the assignment.

  • Experience working with national and/or international infectious disease control or health protection issues.
  • Experience working with preparedness issues, crisis management, and/or civil defense.
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Great emphasis is placed on:

  • Experience working in government and good knowledge of government operations through, for example, handling referrals, government assignments, or similar.
  • Experience in change and development work.
  • Experience in national and international collaboration with, for example, authorities, regions, municipalities, and other relevant actors.

Importance is placed on:

  • Completed leadership training.
  • Experience working from a trust-based approach.

What does the unit do?

The Preparedness and Crisis Management Unit is responsible for coordinating preparedness against infectious diseases and other serious health threats. The unit is responsible for coordinating and developing, among other things, the agency's crisis management organization and exercise activities, the function of duty officer (TiB), and work with civil defense. The unit also coordinates the agency's work in the preparedness sector of Health, Care, and Social Services and contributes operationally and strategically to international work against cross-border threats. The unit collaborates with national authorities, regions, municipalities, and other actors, as well as within the Nordic countries, the EU, and internationally.

About the employment

You will be employed as a unit manager based at our office in Solna. The position is a permanent full-time position that begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date is 2025-05-01 or as soon as possible by agreement.

As an employee of the Public Health Agency of Sweden, you may be subject to military placement. Certain positions are placed in a security class where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. A security review will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).

At the agency, there may be an opportunity to enter into an agreement for remote work up to 40 percent of your working time.
