Department of Security Policy, Ministry of Defence
We are looking for a manager and leader who wants to develop and lead the unit for international relations.
Your workday. Sweden's tomorrow.
As the head of the unit for international relations, we offer you the opportunity to take on the three roles that a leadership position in the Government Offices entails. You will have the chance to lead employees, act as an operational representative, and serve as an employer representative with the goal of continuing to develop the agency's ability to be an effective and competent instrument for the government in its mission to govern the kingdom and realize its policies.
The unit is responsible for issues related to security policy and international coordination within the Ministry of Defence's area, focusing on relations with other countries and international organizations. The unit is also responsible for international military operations and access issues.
The unit also supports the planning and implementation of the ministry's incoming high-level visits and official trips.
Together with the department head, you will work closely with the political leadership. You will be part of the ministry's management group and work with other managers to develop the ministry's operations and working methods.
The unit has about 30 employees. The unit head has personnel responsibility for the group leaders and the unit's assistants, as well as parts of the ministry's dispatched personnel.

Your background
We are looking for someone with an academic education in a relevant field and solid experience from the Ministry of Defence's policy areas. You have recent experience of successfully leading and developing both employees and operations as a manager.
You need to have good knowledge of the unit's operational area and security policy, as well as experience from practical international cooperation, e.g., from international negotiations and from acting as a representative in multilateral contexts. It is also an advantage if you have experience of international service in a bi- or multilateral format. We also want you to have experience from government operations, preferably from the Government Offices. You also need to have good knowledge of total defense. Furthermore, we expect you to be able to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English. Language skills beyond English are an advantage.
Your qualities
As a unit head, you are required to lead and develop the operations in a structured manner. You are genuinely interested in organizational issues and leadership and contribute to creating engagement and participation in the work. You have excellent collaboration skills, are analytical, and have very good communication skills. You also have good judgment and high integrity. The work is often long-term, and sometimes the decision-making processes are extensive, which requires your perseverance. You need to be flexible, proactive, and able to drive parallel processes. The pace is sometimes high, and the work requires a good understanding of the demands of working in a politically governed environment and the ability to adapt to new situations.
Other
This is a permanent position as a department council with a fixed-term appointment as unit head for five years with the possibility of extension.
The position is classified in a security class, and a security review with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen.
