Department Head for the Swedish Customs Administration's Management Department

As the department head for the Swedish Customs Administration's new management department, you will have a responsible and significant role and be part of the authority's management team. The role also includes being the security protection manager for the Swedish Customs Administration.

The management department will consist of approximately 85 employees working in various operational areas; finance, security and preparedness, local issues, procurement, and operational services. These units will be led by unit managers who will be part of your department's management team.

About the position

As the department head for the management department, you have overall responsibility for leading and directing the operations to achieve good results and to practice good leadership.

Your main tasks include:

  • Building and shaping the new department and its units and creating cohesion within the department.
  • Responsibility for the goals and results of your own operations and strategic responsibility for the management and control of the operations as well as overall budget and personnel responsibility.
  • Developing the operations and leading change work.
  • Adapting the operations to changing needs and prioritizing what is most important to do in the short and long term.
  • Leading and developing your management team and leading the operations through subordinate managers and creating good conditions for them to lead and direct the operations.
  • Having good awareness of the external environment and understanding how the outside world affects the Swedish Customs Administration's operations and acting accordingly.
  • Representing the authority in external contexts.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Several years of experience in a high-level management position that has involved leading and developing an organization in change and achieving good results.
  • Experience in management team work and leading through subordinate managers.
  • Current experience in a management position in a government authority and understanding of how an authority functions in management, governance, organization, and follow-up.
  • Experience in one of the department's operational areas.
  • A degree in political science, economics, or law, or other education or experience that we assess as equivalent.
  • Swedish citizenship.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience in several of the department's operational areas.
  • Experience in working with security protection issues.
  • Leadership training.

The employment is a permanent position with individual salary setting applied. Within the Swedish Customs Administration, fixed-term management appointments of 5 years with the possibility of extension are applied.

Start date: By agreement.

Security clearance with background checks according to the Security Protection Act will be conducted before employment, as the position is placed in a security class. The Swedish Customs Administration is a total defense authority and upon employment, you may be assigned to military service in the Swedish Customs Administration.
