We are responsible for the operation and development of the municipality's 143 primary schools and 26 secondary schools.

The mission of the Primary School Department is to realize the goals and visions of the education committee for the city's municipal primary schools and adapted primary schools, based on the Education Act, regulations, curricula, and other regulations. The operations include preschool class, primary school, adapted primary school, and after-school care.

The Primary School Department supports and creates conditions for schools to fulfill their missions. The department's staff will be led by two unit managers who assist the primary school director and primary school managers in leading and managing operations at the governing level.

As the current unit manager is retiring, a reorganization within the Primary School Department is taking place. Through this advertisement, we are therefore looking for two unit managers.

Our workplace is centrally located in Stockholm, opposite the City Hall on Kungsholmen.

We are looking for someone with a relevant university or college degree in the education field and several years of professional experience as a school leader in primary education. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Job description

The role of unit manager in the Primary School Department is a multifaceted assignment in a politically governed organization. It requires that you are well acquainted with the school's complex mission, from leading educational activities with current pedagogical challenges to legal dilemmas.

The unit managers are part of the primary school's management team, and each manager leads about 15 qualified administrators and coordinators in the department. The unit managers coordinate the department's planning and follow-up work and are responsible for investigations, memoranda, etc., and are the department's representatives in steering and preparation groups. The work includes coordination with other departments within the Education Administration and coordination of the department's systematic quality work.

Quality assurance and coordination of service statements and documents are other tasks, as well as contact with other authorities, such as the Swedish National Agency for Education and the Schools Inspectorate.

In addition to their own areas of responsibility, the unit managers are expected to actively participate in the administration's development processes where collaboration with other operational areas is important.

Being a unit manager in the Primary School Department means creating security and building trust by exercising sincere, courageous, and attentive leadership with confidence in others' competence and ability. Culture is as significant as structure and organization.

It is important that you, as a leader, have the whole in focus and, through close leadership, have the ability to support, develop, and engage your employees in daily work and in the development of the unit.

As a unit manager, you need to easily collaborate and create good relationships, both externally and internally, and you listen, communicate, and solve challenges in a constructive way. You are quality-conscious and break down challenges in your operations and let analysis and good judgment guide you in your decision-making.

You make good priorities even under time pressure and approach the varying tasks with flexibility and humility.

The positions involve a lot of writing work, as well as coordination of employees' writing assignments. In service statements, it is the respective unit manager who is responsible for ensuring that content and writing style are correct. Therefore, unit managers should have a very good stylistic ability.

To exercise close leadership in the dynamic operations of the Primary School Department, unit managers are expected to work on-site at the office on Hantverkargatan most weekdays.

Welcome with your application!
