At the Swedish Medical Products Agency (Läkemedelsverket), we make a difference together. In life and for life. We work for the health of humans and animals, for a better Sweden today and in the future.

Are you a statistician and want to influence the work with medicines in Sweden and Europe? Then this might be for you!

Our Operations

The Authorization business area works in various ways to ensure that effective medicines reach the patient. Approvals of new medicines and new indications, as well as safety follow-up of approved products, are central parts. Advising on drug development and providing information about medicines are other important parts. The business area has approximately 300 employees and is divided into several units. The Effect and Safety units evaluate documentation regarding the efficacy and safety of medicines. The investigations and recommendations we produce form the basis for decisions on whether a medicine should be approved for clinical use.

We collaborate with other EU member states in investigative work and actively contribute to committees and working groups within the European Medicines Agency (EMA). We also work closely with other parts of the Swedish Medical Products Agency. We now have a need for a new colleague to join the Statistics Group. The group is responsible, among other things, for the statistical evaluation of the efficacy and safety of medicines. The Statistics Group also plays a key role in collaborating with other parts of the agency on biostatistical issues and monitoring medicine usage.

Your Responsibilities

Your main task will be the statistical and methodological evaluation of clinical trials in applications for the approval of primarily human medicines, but also veterinary medicines. This is done in collaboration between national medicinal agencies in Europe and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). You will also work with scientific advice, primarily to pharmaceutical companies, but sometimes to individual research groups.

The responsibilities also include methodological assessment of trial protocols for planned clinical trials of medicines and medical devices. Furthermore, advisory tasks on statistical methodology issues arising within other business areas of the Swedish Medical Products Agency are included. Additionally, the formulation of new requirements and guidelines for drug development may be part of the role.

As a statistician at the Swedish Medical Products Agency, you, together with other investigators, play a crucial role in decisions regarding which medicines can be used in the EU. The work is developing and independent but is carried out in close collaboration with other statisticians in the group and clinical and other expertise in cross-disciplinary teams.

Your Background

You have a university education amounting to at least a bachelor's degree, preferably a master's degree, in statistics, mathematical statistics, or equivalent. You have good knowledge of biostatistics acquired through relevant professional experience. You have experience interpreting data from clinical studies and practical experience in statistical analysis. You have very good skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Professional experience from the pharmaceutical industry, CRO (Contract Research Organization), and/or a medicinal agency is meritorious, as is a PhD in a field that the Swedish Medical Products Agency considers relevant.

Your Personal Qualities

As a person, you are structured and analytically minded. You have the ability to solve your work tasks independently and deliver results within set deadlines. You communicate clearly and effectively and have the ability to explain your work to others in an understandable way. You therefore function well as a natural discussion partner in a team and thereby provide support in our decision-making processes.

We value scientific curiosity. You have good collaboration skills, are flexible, and solution-oriented.

We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
