As a manager at the Swedish Medical Products Agency (Läkemedelsverket), you act with engagement, courage, and trust, keeping the big picture and our shared mission in focus. Together, we work for the health of humans and animals – for a better Sweden, today and in the future.
We are looking for you who are attracted by the opportunity to lead and develop our Legal Unit together with fellow managers and employees. As Deputy Chief Legal Counsel, you will have a key role in the legal governance of an authority in strong development.
Our Operations
The work at the Legal Unit of the Swedish Medical Products Agency is multifaceted and has both a national and international character. Our starting point is that we work with all existing legal areas, acting as a “full service unit”. Our main legal areas are EU law, pharmaceutical law, and the regulation of medical devices, as well as the administrative and civil law relevant to a central administrative authority.
Our in-house lawyers handle cases independently, represent the agency in court, prepare legal investigations, and provide legal advice, both within the authority and to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. We also participate in the implementation of EU acts, other legislative work, and the development of the agency’s own regulations. In addition, the Legal Unit provides information to the public, affected companies, and the healthcare sector.
The Legal Unit is highly sought after and high-performing, with approximately 30 qualified lawyers and one administrator. The unit, together with the Security Unit, is organized under the Legal Function, which is led by the Chief Legal Counsel. The unit also hosts the agency’s Data Protection Officer and whistleblower function.
Your Responsibilities
As the manager of the Legal Unit, you lead and plan the operations and have responsibility for personnel and economy. The unit is divided into two groups, each with a group manager who reports to you as the unit manager. As unit manager, you are also part of the leadership group for the Legal Function. Together with fellow managers and employees, you continuously work on developing working methods and legal support.
In this role, you make certain authority decisions and represent the authority in courts and other authorities. This is done in close collaboration with the Chief Legal Counsel, who has overall responsibility for coordinating legal matters at the Swedish Medical Products Agency. In your role as Deputy Chief Legal Counsel, you also provide support to, and replace when necessary, the Chief Legal Counsel in various internal and external contexts. The Chief Legal Counsel may also assign tasks to the Legal Unit.
Your Background
We are looking for you who have:
- a law degree and completed notarial merit, or equivalent experience that we assess as comparable,
- substantial documented experience in other qualified legal work, preferably from a government authority, and
- experience in a formal managerial role with personnel responsibility, preferably also experience in leading through others, e.g., being a manager to other managers.
In addition to the above, we consider it meritorious if you have experience in legal areas related to our authority’s mission, appellate court training, and experience working within the EU or the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
We assume that you have good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.
Your Personal Qualities
We are looking for a confident leader who prioritizes, delegates, and leads the operations toward clear goals. You create dialogue and build team spirit and involvement regarding the unit’s development. You easily build relationships and create good collaborations internally and externally, communicate with sensitivity and a solution focus, and contribute to a good work environment characterized by engagement and respect. It is natural for you to handle uncertainty and change in a constructive way and adapt to different situations. With integrity, a strategic perspective, and good analytical skills, you make well-considered assessments and decisions in complex matters. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
