Are you interested in working with environmental and climate issues within international development cooperation? Then you should apply for the position of Project Manager at the Unit for Environmental Integration.

About the Job

We are currently looking for a Project Manager to join our team at the Unit for Environmental Integration, and primarily to the advisory function Sida Helpdesk for Environment and Climate.

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities may include reviewing and assessing the sustainability of interventions; compiling and analyzing available information; mapping potential partners within the environmental sector in a country; analyzing and assessing whether a project proposal meets Sida's requirements for environmental integration; facilitating seminars and providing process support, as well as monitoring international processes.

You will primarily work with advisory services related to Sida's priorities in international development cooperation. The assignments may be of a more thematic nature, for example within climate adaptation, green economy, or trade.

In assignments where appropriate, you will translate research into policy and practice. Scientifically grounded analysis and evidence should be guiding.

You are expected to stay up to date with developments in both the aid and sustainability sectors, and to contribute to our collaboration and network with authorities, business, civil society, and higher education institutions, both Swedish and international actors.

The position also offers opportunities to participate in teaching and other assignments at the Unit for Environmental Integration. Travel within Sweden and to Sida's partner countries may be required.

Your Background

Qualifications:

The responsibilities require thorough knowledge of, a strong interest in, and experience with issues concerning environment and climate, sustainable development, development policy, and international development cooperation. We therefore assume that you are well-versed in and up to date with Sweden's policy and strategy regarding global development and other central aspects within the field, as well as having relevant international experience.

This position has the following requirements for you:

  • An academic degree in economics and political science, or other relevant education that we assess as equivalent.
  • Several years of relevant work experience in international development cooperation with economics as the main subject or integrated into other relevant expertise, e.g., environment.
  • Subject knowledge and professional experience from international development cooperation within sustainable development generally, and the Swedish development cooperation in particular.
  • Experience with consultative work and approach, such as flexibility, project management from start to delivery, and expert advisory.
  • Very good ability to express yourself well both in writing and orally in Swedish and English.
  • Knowledge of and professional field experience from development cooperation.
  • Initiative to drive own and joint work with strong collaboration skills.

It is also meritorious if you have:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in some of the following thematic areas with a connection to poverty reduction: environmental economics, trade and market development, financial instruments, in a development context.
  • Competence in environmental and climate integration at project, sector, and policy levels, including environmental assessment, as well as steering and monitoring, within the framework of development cooperation.
  • Doctoral education (preferably applied research) in a relevant field.
  • Experience with data processing tools (e.g., GIS, Power BI).
  • Experience with research-based tools and methods (e.g., Randomized Controlled Trials).
  • Knowledge of French, Ukrainian, or other languages relevant to the tasks.
  • Experience and interest in participating in educational efforts.

Sida Helpdesk for Environment and Climate

The purpose of the Sida Helpdesk for Environment and Climate is to contribute to increased integration of environment and climate issues across all sectors and countries within Swedish development cooperation within the framework of Sida's mandate. The Sida Helpdesk is a needs-based helpdesk that responds to requests from Sida regarding environment and climate issues. We work with everything from advisory services, method development, education, and monitoring and learning. Requests often come with short notice, which requires efficient working methods, flexibility, and teamwork.
