Do you want to lead the work of preserving and developing some of Stockholm County's most valuable natural environments? As Head of Unit for the Nature Conservation Unit, you will play a key role in making, protecting, and developing the county's nature reserves together with dedicated employees and in close collaboration with several stakeholders.

We are looking for a development-oriented manager for the Nature Conservation Unit, whose task is the management and maintenance of nature reserves and other protected nature across the entire county. We make Stockholm County's 200 nature reserves accessible through digital information, signage, wayfinding, parking, and trails. We ensure that the areas are well-maintained through clearing, fencing, grazing, and other measures.

We also manage properties and buildings in reserves owned by the state. Additionally, we carry out initiatives to improve the situation for threatened species through action plans for threatened species.

What does the role involve?

As a manager, you are responsible for creating the conditions for a good and sustainable work environment where employees thrive, develop, and can perform at their best. You drive and enable competence development by supporting learning, development, and experience sharing within the operations. The role also involves leading and developing the operations by translating goals into results and driving improvement work. The unit has 15 employees, and you have operational responsibility as well as personnel and budget responsibility.

The operations are largely carried out by procured external contractors and are financed by state funds and project funds, where you, as the Head of Unit, hold the economic responsibility.

You will be an important part of the Environmental Department's management group together with your five fellow managers, and you all report to the Head of the Environmental Department. Through good collaboration, you take joint overall responsibility for the department's operations and have good interaction with the County Administrative Board's other operations as well as external collaboration partners.

You will be part of the agency's management collegium and will be offered ongoing competence development to strengthen your leadership and personal development.

Are you the one we are looking for?

For this role, we want you to have:

  • an academic degree in nature conservation, natural sciences, administration, economics, or another degree that the employer considers relevant,
  • some years of current experience in a managerial role or other operational leadership role,
  • experience in working with operational planning and follow-up, financial management, and personnel responsibility,
  • experience in leading operations carried out by external providers,
  • experience in driving development and improvement work,
  • good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish.

You are a secure, present leader with the ability to create engagement and motivate your employees. You work proactively, strategically, and development-oriented with a clear focus on results. To succeed in the role, it is important that you enjoy both internal and external collaborations. You have the ability to lead, coach, utilize, and develop employees' competencies.

  • experience of working within the field of nature conservation,
  • experience from the public sector,

More about us and the role

The position is full-time and permanent. The County Administrative Board applies time-limited managerial appointments. The location is Stockholm. Start date is by agreement.

The position is classified in a security class. We will conduct a security check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585). As a permanent employee at the County Administrative Board of Stockholm County, you will be mobilized for war service based on the needs of the total defense.
