About the role
We are currently recruiting an Interim IT Director for a Swedish government agency in Stockholm. In this role, you will be responsible for the strategic, tactical, and operational management of the agency's IT division, which comprises approximately 800 employees organized into four departments and 18 units.
The assignment includes overall operational, budgetary, and personnel responsibility for the IT division. Furthermore, the role involves leading, developing, and monitoring the IT operations to ensure that goals, assignments, and deliveries are achieved in accordance with the agency's operational requirements.
Other key responsibilities:
- Drive and implement change and development initiatives that strengthen the agency's digital capabilities, streamline working methods, and increase operational benefits.
- Ensure that strategies are translated into concrete goals, action plans, and feasible roadmaps.
- Develop and manage governance models, architectural capabilities, processes, and working methods that support the agency's long-term development.
- Lead the operations through subordinate managers with a focus on trust, responsibility, results, and a sustainable work environment.
- Contribute actively to the agency's executive board and ensure that the IT perspective is integrated into strategic work.
- Promote collaboration between the IT division, other operational areas, trade unions, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure that operations are conducted in accordance with legislation, security protection requirements, the Swedish government's values, as well as internal steering documents and guidelines.
- Create conditions for a culture characterized by openness, trust, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Ensure sustainable, secure, and cost-effective development of the agency's IT environment and digital services to meet both current and future needs.
Assignment period and scope
The position is a full-time consultancy assignment starting on 2026-09-01 and is expected to run until 2027-03-01, with the possibility of an extension of up to three (3) months. The work is primarily performed at the agency's premises in Solna. Some remote work may be possible after agreement with the responsible manager.
Please note that the agency conducts classified operations, which means the assignment cannot begin until background checks and registry checks for the final candidate have been completed and approved.
Requirements for the role:
• At least 5 years of experience leading a large IT organization. At least 2 of these years must have occurred within the last five years and involve change work regarding working methods, culture, and technology.
• An academic degree at least at the bachelor's level in systems science, computer science, information technology, or another comparable technical field of study.
• At least 5 years of documented experience in strategic work with organizational development and the implementation or development of governance models. The experience must include at least one of the following models: ITIL, agile frameworks, or product governance.
• At least 5 years of documented experience in translating business strategies into governance, prioritization, and delivery within an IT organization (IT governance).
• At least 5 years of documented experience in leading through other managers with responsibility for personnel, work environment, and business goals.
• At least 3 years of experience reporting to the CEO/Managing Director and working in the highest executive group of an organization. Sharing responsibility within the executive group for the entire organization's results, development, and continued renewal.
• Ability to communicate fluently in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

Qualifications that are meritorious:
• Valid certification in IT architecture, business architecture, or information architecture. The certification must be verifiable through a certificate or other documentation.
• Experience in leading, developing, or managing an information security management system according to ISO 27001 and/or MSB's guidelines.
• Experience in leading, supporting, or participating in work related to the implementation or adaptation to NIS2, CER, and/or Swedish cybersecurity legislation.
• Experience in handling issues regarding the use of foreign-owned cloud services and applications within government operations, including associated requirements regarding information security, security protection, and applicable regulations.
• Documented experience of working according to the Swedish government's values or a corresponding Code of Conduct in operations with high compliance requirements.
