We are looking for an experienced interim manager for a unit dealing with animal welfare and veterinary issues within the public sector in Nyköping. The unit consists of approximately 12 specialists, including animal welfare handlers and veterinarians.
The team needs a clear, inspiring, and coaching leader who can create structure, build trust, and lead the operations during a transition period. Deep expertise in animal welfare is not a requirement – the most important thing is solid experience in management, employer responsibility, and change leadership.
Duration: August 24, 2026 – December 31, 2026. Scope: Full-time with on-site work in Nyköping at least four days per week.
The Assignment
During the initial period, the focus will be on:
- Building trust and establishing clear leadership.
- Understanding the unit's structure, working methods, and priorities.
- Identifying and managing workplace safety risks.
- Leading and prioritizing daily operations.
- Holding regular check-ins with the department head and HR.
- Working together with the department head to define priorities for the unit's tasks and contributing to the job profile for a permanent manager.
- Evaluating staffing needs and proposing a sustainable long-term core team.
- Providing a short written status report after approximately 30 working days and an action plan after approximately 60 working days.
Qualifications
- Documented experience as a manager or in a clear leadership role with responsibility for employees, workplace safety, and operational priorities.
- Experience in quickly creating structure and stability in operations with high workload or unclear prerequisites.
- Good experience with employer-related issues, including performance management, difficult conversations, rehabilitation cases, and labor law matters.
- Practical experience with systematic work environment work (SAM), risk assessments, psychosocial work environment, and collaboration with HR and occupational health services.
- Experience from the public sector and a good understanding of the authority environment, legal certainty, documentation, and formal decision-making processes.
- Ability to work on-site in Nyköping at least four days per week.
- Available for assignment start on August 24, 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience from supervision activities or other authority enforcement.
- Experience leading specialist groups where management and expertise need to be kept separate.
- Experience in developing working methods, meeting structures, case management, and follow-ups.
- Documented ability to handle conflicts and strengthen collaboration in work groups.
- Experience from animal welfare or veterinary operations is an advantage, but management and leadership skills weigh heavier.
Personal Attributes
We are looking for you who are a secure, clear, and present leader with a coaching approach. You easily build trust, set boundaries, and follow up on operations in a structured manner. You are decisive, solution-oriented, and enjoy working closely with both management and support functions. You have the ability to handle change, create stability, and turn analyses into concrete improvements.
Application
Since selection is ongoing, the position may be filled before the application deadline. Therefore, be ready with your application now. You are warmly welcome!
Please note that we unfortunately do not accept applications via email due to GDPR. If you have questions or concerns regarding the position, do not hesitate to contact Ronja Sert at [email protected]
