The Department of Culture and Leisure works to promote culture and leisure activities in the municipality. We are a politically guided service organization where the residents are our clients. Together, we find new ideas and solutions that contribute to the residents' quality of life, sustainability, health, integration, and reduced social exclusion.

The department consists of five areas of operation:

• Culture school, youth culture, open youth activities, and leisure activities
• Leisure, sports, swimming pool, ice hall, and association activities
• Performing arts, film, theatre, art, music, museum, library, cultural heritage, Finnish administrative area, and minority work

Sigtuna Culture School is a creative meeting place in the municipality and has approximately 30 teachers in music, dance, drama/theatre, and visual arts, who teach children and young people aged 0–21. In addition to regular subject teaching, we conduct extensive outreach and open activities, and collaborate with schools through companion teaching, culture pools, and culture classes. We use the StudyAlong platform.

We want to be an important place for children and young people and meet them on their terms. Through the culture school, we want to create good conditions for community, self-esteem, and development, and we work actively to remain relevant and current in a changing society. The culture school is part of the Department of Culture and Leisure.

Something big is also happening right now in Valsta in Sigtuna Municipality. Right in the middle of the square, a completely new culture house – Mimer – is rising. The building is designed so that both residents and activities can meet and develop in new ways. Behind the large window panes, dynamic content is growing. Here, the library, media studio, creation workshop, stage, café, meeting rooms, and municipal services are gathered under one roof. Together, the activities will form a living culture house that contributes to a safe and sustainable Valsta.

Job Description

The position is 80%.

We are looking for you who want to be part of Sigtuna Culture School, focusing on strengthening our regular teaching in drama/theatre as well as collaboration with primary schools, and driving and developing open activities in drama/theatre. The culture school's open activities aim specifically to reach and create meaningful contexts for children and young people who are not currently part of the culture school's traditional activities.

The position involves, among other things:

• Planning and developing teaching in drama/theatre for grade 8 and grade 9 students in so-called "culture classes," and working with exercises to strengthen students' self-esteem, collaboration skills, and courage to create and express themselves in groups.
• Creating performances and shows with the culture classes together with dance and music teachers.
• Conducting parts of the regular subject teaching in theatre for children and young people during the autumn term, as well as collaborating with primary schools, such as through "culture pools."
• Driving and developing the subject of drama/theatre for children and young people at Mimer Culture House.
• Teaching children and young people in drama/theatre, primarily within open activities. Regular subject teaching in theatre may also become relevant in the future.
• Independently and together with colleagues planning and carrying out activities, student performances, workshops, projects, and other outreach activities to highlight and build up the operations at Mimer Culture House.
• Handling some administrative work.

The position is mainly located on weekdays and afternoons/evenings, but work on weekends does occur.

Qualifications

• University-level pedagogical education in drama and/or theatre, or other education assessed as equivalent.
• Experience in teaching children and young people in drama/theatre.
• Experience in working with open activities is meritorious.
• Experience in project management and coordination is meritorious.

You handle stress in a constructive way, maintaining a good mood under pressure and setbacks.

You are curious and proactive, think outside the box, and easily find solutions to problems.

You are a person with good empathic ability, easily creating new relationships, and skilled at fostering participation and engagement in your teaching.

As a person, you are structured, plan and drive your work from start to finish, and ensure that what you start is completed.
