Your Role
As an IT Security Technician, you will belong to the Cryptography Office under the Cyber Operations Department. The department has two main tasks; contributing to strengthening the protection against qualified IT attacks from abroad for vital societal functions in Sweden, as well as developing and delivering access and exploitation capabilities to the signals intelligence operations. You will be part of a group that, in support of the entire agency, has the task of analyzing hardware and embedded systems from a security and vulnerability perspective.
Together, you will work both on conducting analysis assignments and on development projects to ensure that you have the methods and tools required for the execution of the assignments.
In the role of IT Security Technician, your main tasks are to analyze and deconstruct FPGA-based designs to ensure their quality and correctness. The field is relatively new, and there are great opportunities to shape this area regarding methodology and tool selection.
Other tasks that may occur include the development of FPGA-based tools to extract data from integrated circuits found in, for example, computers and embedded systems.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- An academic degree in, for example, Electrical Engineering/Technical Physics/Computer Science, or has acquired equivalent knowledge through work
- Work experience in FPGA or ASIC development with modern development tools such as e.g. Vivado/Questa
- Practical experience of the entire FPGA development process, from HDL description, synthesis, optimization, netlists, timing analysis, simulation, automated testing to generation of bitstreams
- Good knowledge of VHDL and/or Verilog as well as Python
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing
We consider it meritorious if you have:
- Experience of FPGA-based crypto implementations
- Experience of FPGA reversing with tools such as Project X-Ray and HAL
- Experience of softcores such as MicroBlaze or NIOS
- Experience of analyzing large amounts of data
- Work experience from working in an electronics lab
- Work experience in designing or troubleshooting digital electronics and in digital electronics common buses, communication protocols and interfaces.
- Practical work with electronic measuring instruments such as oscilloscopes, logic and protocol analyzers
- Experience with the following programming languages: C, C++ and Assembly

More Information
The workplace is located near Drottningholm, approx. 10 minutes from Brommaplan. Swedish citizenship is a requirement as employment at FRA involves placement in a security classification. Before employment, you will be security vetted in accordance with the provisions of the Security Protection Act. Employment entails an obligation to be war-placed.
