Welcome to Linnaeus University! Here you meet 2,200 employees and 40,000 students who together follow the vision of putting knowledge into motion for sustainable societal development. At our university, research and education are conducted with a view towards the future. Our proximity to the business community, both locally and globally, gives us long reach and the opportunity for change that creates an impact. All that is needed is a place where ideas have room to meet and grow. That is what we have created – and you are invited. Change starts here!
The Faculty of Technology (FTK) has a broad operation spanning eight different departments through which Linnaeus University provides education and conducts research. The engineering programs range from short courses lasting a few weeks or months to five-year master's programs in engineering. The research responds to societal needs in several broad fields – both short and long term – with basic and applied research in collaboration with societal actors.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is part of the knowledge environments Advanced Materials and Green Sustainable Development, as well as the "Linnaeus University Centre for Data Intensive Sciences and Applications (DISA)", which is one of Linnaeus University's top research environments. The department conducts research in the areas of applied mechanics, maintenance and quality systems, production systems, and power electronics. The research is conducted in close collaboration with both other departments and the business community.
The Department of Electrical Engineering is responsible for the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program in Electrical Engineering and the Master's program in Renewable Electric Power Systems. In addition to these programs, we contribute to several educational programs at FTK. Doctoral education is not organized as a separate subject but takes place within mechanical engineering, physics, mathematics, or another related subject.
Subject area for the position: Electrical Engineering
Location (permanent): Växjö. Since Linnaeus University is located in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between locations may occur.
Extent of employment: 100 %.
Start date: As soon as possible or according to agreement. Probationary employment may be applied.
Job Description
The duties include planning, teaching, and examining courses at the undergraduate and advanced levels in electrical engineering, on the Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Master's programs, as well as in the faculty's Master of Science in Engineering program. Additional duties include supervision and own research within electrical engineering, as well as participation in and initiation of new research projects. The aim is to strengthen research and experimental work within power electronics and electric power systems, or alternatively within applied electronics. Collaboration with researchers in areas such as dynamics, control engineering, robotics, automation, mechatronics, computer science, and/or energy systems is desirable. If the applicant has not completed university pedagogy education, such training will be offered during the first year of employment.
Work on developing collaboration between the university, the business community, and the surrounding society is an important part of Linnaeus University and the Faculty of Technology.
The work may also involve the development of commissioned courses and various types of academic administrative tasks within the university.
Qualifications
Eligible for appointment as a Senior Lecturer is one who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has completed a doctoral degree in the subject area of electrical engineering or has equivalent scientific competence (Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 4).
Equivalent scientific competence is generally considered to be a degree from a foreign university with essentially the same level and quality as a Swedish doctoral degree in electrical engineering.
For eligibility for this position, research publications within one or more of the areas of power electronics, electric power systems, or applied electronics are required.
For eligibility for this position, good ability to teach in Swedish and English is also required.
The applicant must have the prerequisites to participate in teaching and collegial work at the physical workplace.
Evaluation Criteria
As evaluation criteria for the appointment of a Senior Lecturer, the degree of such skill that is a requirement for eligibility for the appointment shall apply. The assessment of pedagogical skill shall be given equal care as the assessment of other eligibility-related conditions. For this position, equal weight shall be attached to pedagogical and scientific skill.
Guiding for the assessment of scientific skill is the independence, scope, and quality of one's own research. Good theoretical knowledge within the respective area is important.
Additionally, it is assessed how well this research connects to other research at the faculty as well as to the department's basic education in electric power technology, mechatronics, smart grids, power electronics, and control engineering. Furthermore, the applicant's ability to apply for and obtain grants from external research funders is also assessed.
Desirable is documented experience of experimental power electronics with application in energy systems or electrification, or alternatively applied electronics with a focus on mechatronics, embedded systems, or control technology.
It is also desirable to have documented experience of experimental research and laboratory-based teaching.
The applicant is expected to have documented and well-graded experience of teaching electrical engineering at the university level.
Pedagogical skill shall have been demonstrated through teaching and refers to both the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination. Pedagogical skill shall demonstrate a reflective approach to student learning and to one's own teaching role. Regarding pedagogical skill, leadership skill at the course and program level, including course responsibility and course development, is assessed particularly.
It is desirable to have completed university pedagogy education.
It is desirable to have relevant experience from industry and/or other societal actors.
