Job Description & Offer
Do you want to help develop the future of orienteering? Do you thrive in a strategic leadership role where you create the conditions for tens of thousands of people to find joy in sport, community, and club life? Then you may be the leader we are looking for at the Swedish Orienteering Federation.
The Swedish Orienteering Federation is one of Sweden's largest special sports federations, with over 82,500 members and more than 540 clubs. Every day, we work to provide members with the prerequisites for a lifetime of orienteering through club development, education, leadership support, and socially beneficial projects. We develop Swedish orienteering in everything from children's and youth activities to elite sports, recreation, inclusion, and new target groups, and we are now looking for a leader who wants to take the next step in development together with us.
As Head of Department for Sport & Club Development, you will be part of the federation's management group. Together with the CEO and other managers, you will drive the operations forward based on the federation's strategy and goals, with a significant mandate to influence both daily operations and long-term direction.
You lead an experienced group of specialists in club development, education, children's and youth activities, land and environmental issues, grassroots and recreational sports, events and competition rules, para-sports, and development projects. You do not need to be a specialist in all areas yourself; your most important task is to create direction, prioritize, and give employees the best conditions to succeed in delivering against set goals.
You are responsible for the department's budget and operational planning and work closely with districts, clubs, the Swedish Sports Confederation, and other partners. The role combines a long-term perspective with close support for operations, meaning you thrive in being present, accessible, and involved.
Experience from the sport of orienteering is not a requirement. What matters most is that you have a genuine interest in sport, club life, and people's opportunities for development. Here, you become part of an engaged federation where your leadership will have a significant impact on both the organization and the future of Swedish orienteering.
Profile
We are looking for you who is a secure and experienced leader who thrives in an operation where collaboration, involvement, and long-term relationships are a natural part of everyday life. You are accustomed to creating structure, making decisions, and turning goals into concrete results, while simultaneously building engagement and helping people grow.
We believe you have built your leadership experience within the sports movement, a member-driven organization, or another non-profit operation. You understand how a democratically governed organization functions and feel comfortable in the interaction between employees, voluntary forces, and elected officials.
You have several years of experience in personnel, budget, and operational responsibility. You are used to driving change and development together with others. You have a relevant academic education or equivalent work experience and communicate fluently in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
Experience in collaborating with boards, clubs, or districts is important for the role, and if you have also worked in a project-funded operation, we view it as meritorious.
