Investigating Social Secretary for Children and Young People

The social services in our municipality is a small operation with short decision-making paths, close collaboration, and a strong commitment to children, young people, and families. Despite – or perhaps thanks to – our size, we are in an intense and exciting phase of development where much is happening simultaneously.

Currently, there is a comprehensive effort underway to adapt the operations to the new Social Services Act. The focus is on a more preventive, accessible, and knowledge-based approach, where early interventions and collaboration are central components.

An important step in this work is the launch of a special investigation villa, aimed at getting closer to families and creating a safer, more home-like environment for conversations and investigations. Through this, we aim to strengthen relationships and increase participation for both children and guardians.

Concurrently, follow-up research is being conducted regarding collaboration between schools and social services, with the goal of developing joint working methods that better meet the needs of children and young people. The research contributes valuable knowledge that is directly translated into practice and strengthens the quality of our collaboration.

We are also building a more structured and long-term work on foster home recruitment, focusing on both recruiting new foster homes and strengthening support for existing ones. Close, trust-based, and sustainable work around foster homes is a prioritized part of the operation's development.

In summary, the social services in our municipality is a workplace where there is great opportunity to influence, develop, and be part of change work – in close collaboration with colleagues, partners, and the families we serve.
