At the Department of Caring Science, you will become part of a collegium with approximately 65 employees. Organizationally, we are one of three departments at the Academy of Health and Working Life. We offer education at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels and work to strengthen both research in caring science and interdisciplinary research.

An appointment as Assistant Professor is a time-limited qualifying appointment for at least four and at most six years according to the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 12a. The purpose of the appointment is to gain the opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility for an appointment as University Lecturer. Applicants who have obtained a doctorate no more than five years before the application deadline will be given priority.

The Academy of Health and Working Life, Department of Caring Science at the University of Gävle hereby advertises a position as Assistant Professor in Caring Science.

Job Responsibilities

The position includes conducting research and teaching. Research-related tasks involve driving the production of publications and research applications in collaboration with senior researchers within the subject area. Research also involves collaborating with external actors, working towards internationalization, and actively participating in the development of research within the subject. Teaching is primarily conducted within the Nursing program and our Specialist Nurse programs with specializations in District Nursing, Elderly Care, Intensive Care, and Anesthesia. Additionally, it includes supervising degree projects (students' independent work) as well as assessing examination tasks at undergraduate and advanced levels, along with some administrative duties.

The tasks and specific areas of responsibility, as well as their extent, are determined by the needs of the operation and may be changed in consultation between the employee and the employer. The proportion of research in the position is initially 50%; this proportion may be adjusted based on needs arising in the subject or when participating in externally funded projects.

The workplace is located in Gävle.

Qualifications

The position requires a doctorate in the subject of nursing/caring science or a corresponding area that the employer considers equivalent. The applicant must have completed higher education pedagogy equivalent to at least five weeks of full-time studies or acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. Those who do not have five weeks of higher education pedagogy upon entering the position will be given the opportunity to complete it within two years from the start date, within the framework of the employment. The applicant must also have demonstrated pedagogical skill and good ability to communicate orally and in writing in Swedish and English, in both scientific and public contexts.

It is particularly meritorious if the applicant has documented experience of research or education in the subject of nursing/caring science and/or person-centered care focusing on the person receiving care/self-care, people with long-term illness, the elderly, relatives, the relationship in caregiving, or good and safe care. Practical professional experience as a nurse/specialist nurse is also particularly meritorious.

It is meritorious to have documented publication of articles in international scientific journals beyond those included in the doctoral thesis, international collaboration, demonstrated ability to obtain external research funding, and experience of collaboration with the surrounding society.

Great importance is attached to personal qualities, such as independence, teamwork, initiative-taking, as well as active participation and physical presence at the workplace.
