Your role with us

You will work as a student assistant in the kitchen and bakery at Österäng Gymnasium, where students in our Hotel, Restaurant, and Bakery program receive their instruction two days a week. Therefore, it is valuable if you have interest and experience from service professions, preferably in the restaurant industry. The rest of the working days during the week take place at Söderport.

As a student assistant, you work to help and stimulate students in need of special support in learning, development, and independence, both individually and in groups, using a low-affective approach. The work involves creating a safe environment and framework for the students with a focus on studies and conditions for developing cooperation and relationships at school. The work is carried out on behalf of the responsible teacher based on the current curriculum. You support students throughout the school day, both in the classroom and during breaks and other activities.

The work involves constant attention, analysis, and understanding of situations inside and outside the classroom. In close collaboration with teachers and other student assistants, you strive to find individual solutions so that each student can benefit from the teaching in the best possible way. Understanding each other's professional roles is of utmost importance. Contact and cooperation with guardians is an important part of the work, as is active participation in the development of the workplace and taking responsibility for your own personal competence development. The work can be physically demanding and mentally stressful.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for you who have one of the following:

• Upper secondary school diploma from the Child and Youth Program with a focus on pedagogical and social work
• Passed the vocational package Student Assistant within adult education or equivalent education to student assistant within folk high school
• Degree/passed from equivalent education that the employer deems sufficiently comprehensive within pedagogy and children's development and learning.
• Meets parts of the educational requirements and has at least three years of work as a student assistant

We want you to have experience from service professions within the restaurant or hotel industry. You also need to be able to choose courses of action within the pedagogical methods and techniques that the school works with. We also want you to have the ability to stimulate students in their development and have a good ability to meet young people. You are a balanced and stable person with a professional attitude and can handle situations that arise in a safe and calm manner.

To succeed in your assignment as a student assistant, it is important that you have empathetic ability and can collaborate. Since the work can be physically demanding, it requires that you have good physical condition. It is an advantage if you have a B driving license.

In order for us to be able to assess your application, you must attach degree certificates/grades for your completed education. When we want to offer you the position, it is required that you show an extract from the police's criminal record so that we can employ you, according to regulations in Chapter 2, Sections 31-33 of the School Act.
