The Department of Process and Applied BioScience (PLE) at Lund University is located at Kemicentrum, one of the largest centers in the Nordic region for education and research in chemistry. PLE has approximately 150 employees, of whom about 65 are doctoral students. The department offers broad expertise in areas such as chemical engineering, food technology, biotechnology, and technical microbiology. Research and education at PLE span the entire field of chemistry and include both undergraduate and graduate education.

Description of the workplace

The Division of Food and Pharmaceutical Sciences conducts research in both food science and pharmaceutical technology. The research areas within the pharmaceutical part include lipid nanoparticles for RNA delivery, formation of protein coronas on lipid nanoparticles, formulations of therapeutic proteins, protein interactions with excipients, as well as drying and dry formulations. All this research requires advanced characterization methods to study interactions, structure, and behavior.

The research group has an well-established collaboration with the large-scale research facilities MAX IV and ESS, which provides unique opportunities for cutting-edge research as well as access to international research networks and collaborations. Advanced methods for X-ray and neutron scattering are central tools in several ongoing projects.

The division consists of researchers with broad and complementary competencies, including professors, researchers, postdocs, doctoral students, and technical staff. This creates a multidisciplinary and international research environment with close collaboration between different research areas. The workplace is located at Lund University of Technology (LTH) in Lund and offers access to modern research infrastructure as well as close collaboration with industrial and academic partners.
