Workplace Description

The Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Lund University is part of the Faculty of Medicine and contributes to identifying health risks in the working and surrounding environment, eliminating these risks, and preventing ill health. The department focuses on a wide range of research areas including the work environment, the surrounding environment such as chemicals, air pollution, noise, and metals across different life stages for health, planetary health, and lifestyle factors.

The Research Group in Genetic Occupational and Environmental Medicine is located at the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and focuses on the environment's role in health by combining genetic and molecular approaches with epidemiological and register-based studies. The research group is led by Professor Karin Broberg. We are a group of about 10 members from various parts of the world. The research group is based at Medicon Village in Lund.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The position involves coordinating and working in register-based and molecular epidemiological projects concerning the relationship between occupational and environmental exposure (such as chemical exposure) and health, and associated mechanisms based on biomarkers. The role entails studying and developing current research areas, writing grant applications, conducting field studies, laboratory work, statistical data analysis, writing scientific articles, including systematic review articles and popular science articles, as well as project management.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • PhD in biomedicine, biology, or medicine
  • Documented experience in molecular biological analysis
  • Documented experience working with register- and biobank-based data
  • Documented experience conducting statistical analyses, compiling results, and writing scientific articles
  • Proficiency in R or Stata
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to collaborate with others in research groups

Meritorious qualifications for the position include:

  • Experience in research on metals and organic chemicals
  • Experience in project management and field work

Scientific proficiency in the relevant subject area is the primary employment criterion. In the evaluation, research profile, experience, and knowledge will be considered.

The position is a permanent full-time (100%) appointment starting on 2026-09-01, or as agreed.
