Welcome to apply for a position at one of Stockholm's most beautiful inner-city schools, Sofia School on East Södermalm. The school is popular, many want their children here, and today the school has just over 900 students in grades F-9 and just over 100 employees.

The school has had a full-time counselor for some time. With extra state funding to increase school attendance and reduce problematic school absenteeism, we now see an opportunity to offer an additional role to the school's student health team.

Job Description

The school counselor is to facilitate students' learning and promote their social development.

In your role as a school counselor, you will have primary responsibility for following up on students with high absenteeism, both in ensuring that our routines work and implementing measures to address problematic school absenteeism.

In the division of labor between you and the other school counselor, you will be responsible for grades 7-9. You will be part of the Student Health Team (SHT) for the lower secondary school and belong to the work team for grade 7.

The main tasks in the role of school counselor at Sofia School include:

• Social investigation, mapping, and treatment work
• Conversations with students individually and in groups, class work
• Documentation of work with individual students
• Parent meetings, network meetings
• Supervision and consultation of school staff
• Work with crisis management and conflict resolution
• Participate in the school's student health team and collaborate with others to develop the school's working environment for students
• Collaborate with social services, child and adolescent psychiatry, habilitation, leisure activities, and police

Qualifications

Social Work degree (140 credits).

School counseling work requires the ability to handle multiple perspectives in both direct student work and indirect preventive work. This presupposes a broad range of work methods and deep knowledge of children and young people, their development, and their situation in society. This means deep knowledge in behavioral and social sciences, social legislation, and social treatment work. Knowledge of the legislation governing school operations and secrecy laws is also important.

Even though there will now be two school counselors, the counselor is expected to independently take responsibility for their own professional work. This gives great freedom of action but also requires good judgment. It also requires the counselor to take responsibility for maintaining and deepening their professional competence and knowledge of the surrounding world.

With two school counselors at the school, it will be important to have good collaboration skills for maximum efficiency and well-being.
