Project Description
The project "Data-driven Precision Medicine for Improved Antibiotic Treatment and Infection Control" aims to develop AI models, particularly large language models (LLMs), that can contribute to improved infection control and antibiotic management within healthcare.
By analyzing large amounts of electronic patient records, the goal is to develop models that can be used to reduce unnecessary antibiotic treatment and predict which patients are at risk of developing infections. The models are based on both structured data and clinical text, and are developed using machine learning and large language models. The project also explores methods for explaining the models' predictions, with the aim of contributing to more reliable AI in healthcare.
The project is at the forefront of research on data-driven patient safety work and can contribute to reduced antibiotic use, reduced occurrence of healthcare-associated infections, and reduced antibiotic resistance.
Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will contribute to the project by developing and evaluating AI models, particularly large language models, for infection control and antibiotic management. Examples of tasks include:
- developing models for information extraction and classification of multimodal clinical data, including clinical text
- evaluating models and analyzing experimental results
- collaborating with researchers and domain experts within the project
- presenting and discussing research results in writing and orally.
The position also includes contributing to the department's teaching, preferably within NLP and AI.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- a master's degree in computer and systems science, computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, or a corresponding field
- good programming skills in Python
- experience working with machine learning
- experience working with large language models
- excellent ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English.
Special emphasis will be placed on:
- experience of research or projects within AI and language technology with applications in healthcare
- experience of developing and evaluating AI methods based on large language models
- ability to work independently and to collaborate within research projects.
