Övre Älvdal Parish covers the northeastern part of Torsby Municipality. Our church buildings are located in Höljes, Bograngen, Långav, Nyskoga, and Stöllet. Three of the churches are situated along the Klarälven river, which winds through the entire parish. The river offers a rich leisure life during the summer. Fishing, paddling, and occasionally chilly swims are popular. Many also use the river for adventurous log rafting trips. For those who do not swim in the river or lakes, there is a swimming hall in Sysslebäck, although fishing there is significantly worse. The other two churches are located in the mythical Finnskogen, a popular recreation area with hiking trails between the Finngårds (Finland-Swedish farms). The forests have rich wildlife, and hunting is a major leisure activity for many parishioners. Moose hunting attracts people back to their hometown and adds spice to life with foreign guests. In winter, the snow often lies deep at the high-altitude ski resorts. Långberget is known for cross-country skiing, and Branäs for downhill skiing. The population of Torsby Municipality doubles when the facilities are fully occupied, with many long-distance guests.

Long distances are something the population is accustomed to, and a car is almost a necessity, but not always a hindrance. Höljes is well known for its Rallycross competitions, and folk racing is a major sport for many families in the parish.

Our activities cover the entire area of the parish. Services are held not only in our churches but also at local heritage centers and summer farms. The riverbanks and certain lakes are also visited during the summer. Spring and winter concerts with our choirs, walks between churches, and the summer music program are spread out so that many can participate without long car journeys.

Children's activities are concentrated in the schools in Stöllet and Sysslebäck.

Your role: As a curate (Komminister), traditional priestly duties are included, such as services, church ceremonies, confirmation, and children's activities. It is a requirement that you are ordained in the Church of Sweden and have a B driver's license and access to your own car.
