Järfälla Gymnasium has over a thousand students distributed across two campuses in Barkarby and Jakobsberg. Here you will find university-preparatory programs, vocational programs, introductory programs, as well as the adapted upper secondary school.

Job Responsibilities

This position is aimed at our student groups with severe to moderate intellectual disability, where the students have extensive needs for support and assistance throughout their school day. Together with other resource persons and teachers, you form a close team that ensures every student receives a secure, stimulating, and accessible learning environment based on their unique conditions.

The role means that you are the student's extended arm, voice, and source of security at school. Since the students have large and combined needs for assistance, you seamlessly switch between pedagogical support and hands-on care.

Your main responsibilities:

• Extensive care: Support with personal hygiene, toilet visits/diaper changes, meal situations, and mobility (where lifting and hoists are a natural part of daily life).
• Medical interventions: Handle medication and medical equipment (e.g., tube feeding/PEG, epilepsy medication, or suctioning) according to assigned delegation.
• Active communication support: Use and maintain the student's alternative communication methods throughout the day.
• Pedagogical support: Assist the student in teaching (focusing on subject areas) and in aesthetic, motor, and sensory-stimulating activities.

Qualifications and Merits

Requirements, you have:

• Education as a care assistant, auxiliary nurse, childminder, or other education/experience that the employer deems equivalent.
• Documented experience in care work and familiarity with medical procedures (preferably tube/PEG).
• Good physical stamina, as heavy lifting and mobility assistance occur in the work.
• Good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing to ensure documentation and acute medical instructions.

Meritorious:

• Experience working in adapted schools or with people with severe intellectual disability/combined functional variations.
• Experience with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and PECS/SIGNS as alternative and augmentative communication.

Personal Qualities

You are a person who exudes calmness, stability, and warmth. Since the students' daily condition varies, you need to be very flexible and sensitive to small signals. You have a genuinely low-affective approach and enjoy working in a close team where everyone supports each other in all situations.
