Workplace Description

The PhD project will be carried out at Medical Engineering IKVL, located at LTH in the ultrasound group. There you will also find the department's other PhD student, as well as the researcher who will contribute as a co-supervisor.

The research group is now seeking a full-time (100%) PhD student starting September 1, 2026 (or by agreement).

PhD Project Description

The work will involve theoretical and experimental modeling of the response of magnetic nanoparticles in a magnetic field. Furthermore, mechanisms for the potential therapeutic effect of different nanoparticle shapes will be studied, for example, via lysosome rupture. The project also involves conducting the first demonstration of antibody-directed imaging and potential therapy using magnetomotive ultrasound. Verification will take place both on phantoms (test objects) and include cell studies.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The tasks will include:

• Conducting research within the project described above. The research involves the design, planning, and execution of studies, as well as the development of phantom and cell models and measurements on these.
• Participating in the supervision of master's thesis projects.
• The role also involves traveling and presenting research at scientific conferences and visiting collaboration partners.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for the position:

• A background in technical physics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, hospital physics, or equivalent (at least 240 credits, of which 60 credits at advanced level).
• Experience in theoretical and experimental modeling as well as signal processing, preferably with applications in Biomedical Engineering, specifically ultrasound technology.
• Very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in English.

We expect you to be a meticulous and goal-oriented person.

The following are meritorious:

• Knowledge of ultrasound physics, specifically magnetomotive ultrasound.
• Experience with experimental studies involving antibodies, bacteria, and/or cells.
• Previous experience in giving presentations at conferences.

Eligibility

Basic eligibility for doctoral studies is held by those who have: completed an advanced level degree, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or in some other way within or outside the country have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge.

Evaluation Criteria

Regulations for employment as a PhD student are found in Ordinance SFS 1998:80. Only those admitted to doctoral studies may be appointed as holders. In the appointment, emphasis shall be placed primarily on the ability to benefit from the doctoral education. In addition to the obligation to engage in their own doctoral education, the holder may be required to perform duties concerning education, research, and administrative work according to special provisions in the ordinance.

Conditions

Fixed-term employment for four years according to HF Chapter 5, Section 7.
