MultiPark is a strategic research area at Lund University. As a global leader in research on Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and other neurodegenerative diseases, MultiPark conducts research at all levels – from basic molecular mechanisms to patient care. Our research environment comprises approximately 50 research groups, of which over 90% are affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • We are now seeking an engaged and responsible research engineer to work as the platform manager for the research infrastructure Brain Circuit Analysis (BCA).
  • In this role, your main task will be to function as the operational manager of a laboratory working with in vivo recordings of brain activity in rodents, based on microelectrodes, Neuropixels probes, and optical miniscope technology.
  • You may also participate in initial data collection and necessary preprocessing of data prior to further analysis. Additionally, you may assist in collecting behavioral data in connection with neurophysiological recordings.
  • As the platform manager, you will introduce and guide new users and be responsible for the maintenance and functionality of the equipment.
  • In summary, you will play a key role in introducing and supporting researchers within MultiPark in modern in vivo neurophysiological techniques and contributing to the development of the experimental toolkit for studying brain circuits and neuronal dynamics in health and disease.

Your Main Tasks:

  • Maintain and ensure continued operation and performance of the platform together with the management team.
  • Manage booking lists and communicate with users and equipment suppliers as needed.
  • Introduce and train new users.
  • Assist in constructing and implanting components for chronic recordings/manipulations in rats and mice, such as microelectrode arrays, GRIN lenses, and other light guides, optical windows, and cannulae, etc.
  • Assist in recording brain activity in freely moving rodents.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • A doctoral degree in medicine, natural sciences, or neurotechnology.
  • Documented experience with in vivo neurophysiological recordings in animals using microelectrodes, Neuropixels probes, or optical recording techniques.
  • Documented experience in assembling the aforementioned recording instruments and associated hardware and software.
  • Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks and meet external deadlines in a calm and structured manner.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The role requires excellent teamwork skills, a service-oriented approach, and a strong interest in technical improvements and solutions to experimental problems. Good communication and organizational skills are crucial, as is a genuine interest in supporting researchers.

Meritorious Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with in vivo electrophysiology in freely moving rodents.
  • Experience with miniscope technology or two-photon microscopy in chronic experiments.
  • Own research in areas relevant to MultiPark, especially if it has resulted in first-author publications.

Other Information

The position is a fixed-term part-time employment at 50% for one year, starting no earlier than September 1, 2026, or as agreed.

The highest-ranked candidates will be invited for an interview at Lund University approximately 2–3 weeks before a final decision is made.
