Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. There are approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö.

Workplace Description

The research group of Rundberg Nilsson (https://alexandrarundbergn.wixsite.com/home (https://alexandrarundbergn.wixsite.com/home)) is looking for a highly motivated and ambitious person with a master's degree in biomedicine, molecular biology, biotechnology, or another relevant field. You should have a strong interest in hematopoiesis, cancer biology, or cellular and molecular disease mechanisms, as well as a desire to contribute to a growing research environment with high scientific ambitions.

The position is located in the Rundberg Nilsson group at the Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy, Lund University. The group's research aims to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate hematopoietic stem cells and how disruptions in these processes can contribute to leukemic transformation. The work combines experimental stem cell biology with molecular, genomic, and data analytical methods, focusing on stress response, stem cell function, and leukemia development.

As a project assistant, you will become an important part of a growing research group where the role contributes directly to establishing experimental workflows, driving ongoing projects forward, and creating conditions for continued scientific development. The workplace is characterized by close collaboration, scientific curiosity, diligence, and an ambition to create a sustainable and inclusive research environment.

We Offer

Lund University is a public authority, which means you receive special benefits, generous vacation time, and a favorable occupational pension.

You will work on experimental research projects within hematopoietic stem cell biology and leukemia. The tasks can be adapted to the needs of the projects but mainly include:

  • Planning, conducting, documenting, and analyzing research experiments.
  • Work with cell and molecular biological methods, such as cell culture, PCR/qPCR, Western blot, and flow cytometry.
  • Work with mouse models, including handling biological material, sampling, and organization according to current permits and regulations.
  • Processing and compiling research data, as well as presenting results at lab and project meetings.
  • Participation and presentation in journal clubs, seminars, and other scientific activities. Literature search and reading of relevant scientific literature.
  • Contribution to order, safety, and sustainable routines in the laboratory.
  • Collaboration with other employees and external partners as needed.

The work requires careful documentation, the ability to work independently under supervision, good collaboration skills, and a willingness to contribute scientific ideas and practical solutions.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Master's degree in biomedicine, molecular biology, biotechnology, or another relevant field.
  • Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English. Documented experience of practical laboratory work in cell biology, molecular biology, hematology, cancer biology, or a related area (at least 60 ECTS credits or 40 full-time weeks).
  • Experience in planning, conducting, and documenting experimental work in a careful and structured manner.
  • Practical experience in flow cytometry, cell culture, PCR/qPCR, and Western blot.
  • Qualification/training for animal experimentation work, such as LAS certification or equivalent.

Merits for the position include:

  • Experience working with mouse- or human-based hematopoietic cells, bone marrow, blood, or other relevant tissues.
  • Experience with flow-assisted cell sorting (FACS).
  • Experience with bioinformatics, basic programming, or analysis of large biological datasets.
  • Experience with genetic modification methods (such as CRISPR, lentivirus, etc.).
  • Experience with mass spectrometry or other omics-based methods.
  • Previous publications, thesis work, or other research merits in a relevant field.
  • Interest/aspiration for a long career in academia.

Other

The position is a fixed-term full-time employment according to SÄVA for 6 months, starting from 2026-09-01 or as agreed.

The Faculty of Medicine is a business area within Lund University, responsible for education and research in medicine, care, and health. The education takes place in close collaboration with healthcare and is well rooted in the faculty's strong research tradition. The faculty's research spans a broad field within experimental basic research, patient-oriented clinical research, and health science research.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine (ILM) is one of six departments at the Faculty of Medicine. We conduct leading research in the field of laboratory medicine with a focus on how diseases arise and how we can improve patients' diagnostics and treatment. Some of our strongest areas with world-class research concern cancer, genetics, and blood research.
