Subject Description

The subject is high-dimensional quantum systems and their information-theoretic applications.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the postdoctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may be included in the duties, but will not exceed one-fifth of the working time. As part of the employment, the opportunity for three weeks of university pedagogy education will be provided.

The work also includes opportunities for:

• teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels.
• participation in supervising degree projects and doctoral students.
• collaboration with industry and society.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, one must have completed a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree, within the subject area of the position, and the degree must have been awarded no more than three years prior to the date of the employment decision. In special cases, the doctoral degree may have been awarded earlier.

Other Requirements:

• Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
• Good ability to conduct high-quality research.
• Significant experience and skill in quantum information theory and high-dimensional systems.

Assessment Criteria

This is a merit-based position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as researchers.

Special emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area.

When hiring a postdoctoral researcher, the following shall form the basis for assessment:

• Good ability to develop and conduct high-quality research.
• Pedagogical ability.

Other Merits:

• Good ability in scientific communication, both written and oral.
• Ability to take initiative.

Consideration will also be given to good teamwork skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department and contribute to its future development.

Terms of Employment

The employment is fixed-term for a maximum of 3 years and is full-time. The fixed-term nature of the employment is governed by the agreement "Agreement on Fixed-Term Employment as a Postdoctoral Researcher" between the social partners, dated 2022-02-01 (The Swedish Agency for Government Employers, OFR, and Saco-S).

Research and education are conducted at the Faculty of Science in astronomy, biology, physics, earth sciences, chemistry, mathematics, medical radiation physics, environmental science, and physical geography. The activities take place within the northern university area. The faculty has approximately 1,900 students, 330 doctoral students, and 730 employees.

The Department of Physics is one of Lund University's largest departments with approximately 400 employees. The department is shared by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering (LTH). The department has seven research divisions and several major research centers. The research at the department covers a broad spectrum of modern physics.
