Welcome to Linnaeus University! Here you will meet 2,200 employees and 40,000 students who together follow the vision of putting knowledge into motion for sustainable societal development. At our university, research and education are conducted with a view towards the future. Our proximity to the business community, both locally and globally, gives us long reach and the opportunity for change that leaves a mark. All that is needed is a place where ideas have room to meet and grow. That is what we have created – and you are invited. Change starts here!
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is one of five faculties at Linnaeus University. We conduct education, research, and collaboration within health, care, and natural sciences.
The Department of Medicine and Optometry conducts research and teaching within eHealth, medicine, and optometry with a total of 24 employees. At the department, you will find the eHealth Institute (https://lnu.se/forskning/forskargrupper/ehalsoinstitutet/), a dynamic, interdisciplinary knowledge and learning environment that coordinates the subject of e-health within the university and drives research and evaluation projects with a focus on user and citizen benefit. The eHealth Institute collaborates with many external actors within regions, municipalities, research institutes, universities, and companies, as well as internally with Linnaeus University's top research environment DISA (https://lnu.se/forskning/forskargrupper/linnaeus-university-centre-for-data-intensive-sciences-and-applications/) and the knowledge environments Sustainable Health (https://lnu.se/mot-linneuniversitetet/kunskapsmiljoer/hallbar-halsa/) and Digital Transformations (https://lnu.se/mot-linneuniversitetet/kunskapsmiljoer/digitala-transformationer/). Furthermore, the eHealth Institute offers a master's program, standalone courses, and commissioned education within e-health.
An important external partner in e-health is Region Kalmar County, a collaboration that has existed for many years. Linnaeus University and Region Kalmar County are making a joint major investment between the years 2024-2032, eHealth Collaboration (https://lnu.se/mot-linneuniversitetet/samarbeta-med-oss/Projekt-och-natverk/samverkan-e-halsa/), with the purpose of creating a strong ecosystem around e-health in Kalmar County, with national and international visibility. Within this collaboration, Region Kalmar County drives eHealth Arena (https://www.ehealtharena.se/), whose purpose is to contribute to increased use of e-health services and welfare technology, increased business growth in the e-health sector, and increased efficiency in care and social services. Both Linnaeus University and eHealth Arena are partners in Health Data Sweden (HDS) (https://www.healthdatasweden.eu/), one of Europe's Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH), and Sweden's only one focusing on health and e-health.
Subject area for the position: Health Informatics
Location (permanent): Kalmar
Employment extent: Full-time for four years
Start date: As agreed.
According to the Higher Education Ordinance (HF 4 ch 12 c§), an assistant professor shall, upon application, be promoted to professor if they are eligible for a professorship and, upon assessment, are deemed suitable for such a position according to the assessment criteria relevant to the appointment. Such promotion entails a permanent appointment as a professor. The application and assessment for promotion to professor shall take place within the period of employment as an assistant professor.
Job Description
The purpose of the position is to give the employee the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to obtain scientific and pedagogical qualifications to meet the requirements for a position as a professor. The content of the position is divided between research (50%) and teaching (50%).
We are looking for you who, over four years, want to contribute to developing the work carried out within the framework of the joint major investment eHealth Collaboration (https://lnu.se/mot-linneuniversitetet/samarbeta-med-oss/Projekt-och-natverk/samverkan-e-halsa/). The employment involves contributing, based on existing common structures and investments, to the continued development of an interdisciplinary, jointly nationally leading and internationally visible knowledge and research environment within e-health. Important areas of development within e-health concern artificial intelligence and other advanced analysis of health data, patient self-care/self-monitoring/sensor technology and remote care, as well as automation. This environment should also locally in the county create attractiveness for employees, students, and companies in the cluster being built around eHealth Arena (https://www.ehealtharena.se/) and contribute to freeing up time for close and resource-efficient high-quality care for both residents and healthcare employees. The research is expected to be conducted in collaboration with researchers connected to the environment and with active participation in the environment's doctoral school, seminar activities, conferences, and similar.
An equally important part of the employment is to work with and develop the teaching connected to the research environment. The tasks therefore include teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, with course responsibility, planning of teaching, teaching and examination, as well as supervision of independent work. Additionally, it includes following developments within one's own subject area and general societal development that is significant for the collaboration between Linnaeus University and Region Kalmar County.
