At Östra Götaland Rescue Service, we all work towards the same goal: to reduce accidents and minimize injuries. We must be able to spread knowledge, handle various types of accidents, and support our fellow human beings. And we must be there for each other. Our strength lies in our diverse capabilities. What is yours? There is a high chance it fits perfectly with us.
Description
Are you an experienced fire engineer, or are you graduating this autumn and looking to start your career in civil protection and preventive work? With us, you will have a role where you work structured within the framework of our official duties, while also having the opportunity to take initiative and contribute to the development of our operations.
Responsibilities
In the role of Fire Engineer, you will become a key part of our accident prevention work. You will conduct inspections according to the Act Concerning Protection Against Accidents (LSO) and the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods (LBE), and participate in the building process through case handling and advisory services.
The work also includes conducting inspections according to LSO at operations classified as hazardous, handling cases related to Seveso activities, and assisting in the handling of environmental permits, as we operate in an area where such activities are common.
The role involves frequent contact with business operators, other authorities, and the public, which requires clarity and sound judgment in your exercise of official authority. You will become part of a work group with broad and deep competence, where we value structure and quality – but also initiative and the willingness to think new thoughts.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a university degree as a Fire Engineer, which is a requirement for the position. You are motivated by contributing to a safer society.
If you have additional training in rescue services for fire engineers (RUB), it is an advantage, but we also welcome applications from those who do not yet have this education. We view with particular interest those who wish to develop further within the operational area. Here, there is an opportunity to, over time, take the step into an operational role as a regional incident commander.
It is an advantage if you have relevant work experience in the field. You have good knowledge of relevant Swedish legislation and express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing. Furthermore, you have a good understanding of English, both spoken and written, and are accustomed to working in Microsoft Office.
A category B driver's license is required. It is an advantage if you have experience working with AI-based tools as well as knowledge within risk management, the building process, and current building regulations.
As a person, you are confident in your role and have the ability to meet people in different situations in a professional and respectful manner. You have integrity and make decisions based on legislation and facts, while being receptive and able to adapt your approach. You work independently and structured with your cases, even when processes take time, and you have an analytical approach where you are ready to reconsider previous stances when new conditions arise.
Important to know
We offer you a workplace in constant development, and we actively work with employee engagement and leadership to create an attractive workplace for all represented professional roles, and for both women and men. Since we are important to our residents, it is valuable for us as a rescue service that we reflect society. We therefore value cultural competence as we see that it adds further understanding, experience, and knowledge to our meetings with residents while developing our organization.
We actively work for a safe and healthy workplace with zero tolerance for offensive behavior, harassment, and discrimination. We care about our employees' well-being and actively work for a good balance between work and private life, with opportunities for training and a sustainable workload. We are a drug- and alcohol-free workplace, so we conduct drug tests supported by occupational health services before employment. We follow labor laws and have collective agreements, which we see as security in working life.
The position may be security classified according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585). Within our operations, all employees are war-placed. To facilitate our assessment of incoming applications, we use an electronic application form. Your application with accompanying merit list is handled in accordance with the provisions regulated by GDPR (the Data Protection Regulation). The selection of applications is made against registered merits and education.
About Us
We are a municipal association with five member municipalities: Linköping, Norrköping, Söderköping, Valdemarsvik, and Åtvidaberg. We have a total of approximately 470 employees within both the administrative organization and the operational response activities. The association comprises four full-time stations, twelve part-time stations, and four rescue brigades, and we have on average about 75 employees on duty around the clock.
The trust in the rescue service is high among residents. They rely on us being there for them in everyday life, in all situations. To live up to that trust, we need to be able to solve many different challenges.
We must spread knowledge. Those we meet should know how to avoid dangers and accidents – at home, at work, in nature. This applies to all residents of all ages, but not least the future safety ambassadors in preschools and schools.
We must be able to extinguish fires quickly and safely, and help with all sorts of accidents. We must be able to meet our fellow human beings where they are. Both geographically and emotionally. We must be able to handle people in crisis. Professionally and emotionally.
And we must be there for each other, and ensure that everyone who works with us has the best conditions to fulfill their important mission.
Our strength is that we have so many different strengths. So, what is yours? There is a high chance it fits with us.
