Description of the subject area

The subject area of pharmaceutics is a central sub-area of galenic pharmacy and deals with the physical and technological aspects of formulation and manufacturing of medicines, including quality testing of medicinal preparations. Examples of central knowledge areas include physical and technical characterization of medicines, excipients, and their physical and technical properties, process technology and process control, manufacturing of medicinal preparations, and quality assurance of medicine manufacturing.

Job Description

Teaching, which includes course coordination, responsibility for lectures, seminars, and laboratory supervision on the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician programs, as well as some administration.

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer (Universitetsadjunkt) according to sections 41–43 of the Uppsala University Employment Regulations (AO) is someone who has completed a university degree and demonstrated pedagogical proficiency. When appointing a University Lecturer, the requirement for scientific competence is replaced by a requirement for subject specialization. The pedagogical proficiency must have been demonstrated through extensive merits in education according to section 22 of the AO, or in other ways within the area of operation that the education concerns.

A prerequisite for pedagogical proficiency to be considered present is a completed, relevant to the activity, university pedagogical education, comprising at least ten weeks, or equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the university pedagogical education can be completed during the first two years of employment.

A basic degree in pharmacy or a related field is required for this position.

Experience in teaching in galenic pharmacy and experience in teaching extemporaneous preparation of medicines are meritorious.

The applicant should have documented ability to teach in Swedish (section 6 AO).

A general eligibility requirement is that the applicant must have the ability to cooperate and otherwise meet the requirements for suitability needed to perform the duties of the job well (section 5 AO).

Great importance is attached to personal suitability, motivation, and genuine interest in teaching within the area.

Evaluation Criteria

Pedagogical proficiency refers to educational merits. When assessing pedagogical proficiency, pedagogical quality should be considered primarily. The extent, both breadth and depth, should also be given importance. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop education and teaching, as well as the ability to link teaching to research, should be given importance. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding society through education should also be part of the pedagogical proficiency. See also section 15 RB.

When the university is to employ new teachers, the applicants should be chosen who, after a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skill, are judged to have the best prerequisites for carrying out and developing current job duties and contributing to a positive development of the activity (section 4 AO).

The aspect of gender equality shall be applied in employment if, after a qualitative assessment, it appears that two applicants of different sexes have equal or nearly equal merits, and if one of the sexes is underrepresented (constitutes less than 40% within the current position category and at the current workplace). The applicant's parental leave, part-time work due to care of children, or similar, will be considered as meritorious work experience.

All merits must be documented so that both quality and extent can be assessed.
