Description of duties

At our school, the role of the special needs teacher is central. You work both strategically and closely with the students, focusing on creating the best possible conditions for learning. Working with students in need of extensive support is a challenge – but also one of the school's most important and meaningful tasks. At our school, you do not do this alone.

You will work in close collaboration with:

  • mathematics teachers
  • other subject teachers
  • student health care staff
  • school leadership.

You will become an important part of developing a cohesive mathematics learning process from preschool class to year 9 (F–9), where shared vision, progression, and common working methods are in focus. We know that relationship building, clarity, and structure make a difference – and that a dedicated special needs teacher in mathematics plays a crucial role in students' achievement of goals.

Your responsibilities will include, among other things:

  • working directly with students in need of special support in mathematics, both in the classroom and in smaller groups or individually
  • investigating, analyzing, and documenting students' needs
  • mentoring and supporting teachers in inclusive and accessible mathematics teaching
  • collaborating closely with mathematics teachers in years 7–9 to develop teaching
  • contributing to the development of the mathematics subject at the school from an F–9 perspective together with special needs teachers for younger ages
  • being a driving force in developing the school's working methods regarding support measures in mathematics
  • contributing to school development at the individual, group, and organizational levels

You are an active part of the student health care team as well as the school's special needs teacher team, where you together create shared vision and development.

We are looking for someone who:

  • enjoys collaborating with and mentoring colleagues
  • wants to contribute to the development of mathematics teaching and organization from an F–9 perspective
  • has a strong commitment to students in need of support.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has a special needs teacher degree with a focus on mathematics. You should have good knowledge of extra adaptations and special support.

You are proactive and take active initiative for measures that strengthen students' mathematical understanding and development. You are flexible and adapt your working methods based on students' different needs as well as changing conditions in teaching. You have good collaboration skills and work closely with teachers, student health care, and guardians to create the best possible support for students' learning in mathematics. You have good empathetic ability and can put yourself in students' different perspectives and situations, which contributes to respectful treatment and a secure learning environment.
